Looking for a mod - build your own interiors?

[edit] - FOUND IT!

I used this mod a good while back, and i'd like to try install it again. But for the life of me I can't remember the name of it, and searching on google isn't helping.

The mod gave you a new category in your build menu that added something like 200 doors. And when you clicked the doors, they'd lead you to individual build zones. So it was like placing an interior anywhere you wanted. The build zones were infinite and empty except for the workshop and one scrap-able wood floor panel to start you off. If you wanted out, you'd have to fast travel (unless they fixed that since then, it has been a while)

I know there's a popular bunker mod that is similar - but are the bunkers limited in space? Like, can you only build as big as the bunker is, or can you knock down walls and build as far as you want? Also, are the bunkers in the shape of doors - or are they shaped like the bunker in Sanctuary - in the ground?

Heyas LL!

If it was a mod that you downloaded from here on the nexus, you can find it by searching through your downloads.

On the main page https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4 along the very top of the page, you will see a link that says Mods V

If you click on the arrow, a menu will drop, and you will see a link that says Download History. You can find it from there, but it may take hunting through several pages, depending on how often you download.

Also if you find it, please post a link. It sounds really cool, I'd like to check it out :D

Basement Living https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/10967 is the mod that adds several "cozy" bunkers that you can add to settlements via the build menu. I'll warn you tho. You want to save your game before you start testing these out, and make a list of the ones that you've tried and don't like. After testing about 3 of these at once, I got an infinite load loop. So test a couple, reload the game, test a couple, reload the game, etc.

This isn't one of them that you were talking about but there is also build your own vault. https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/10603 haven't tried this one yet tho.

Personal Bunker Builds. Has trapdoors in 5 locations with some very large underground building areas. https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/28073

The last one that I know of is Not Just Basements, which is a variant of Basement Living, but with more areas (some are pretty cool). https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/36816

Hope this helps

I've got my download history bookmarked already lol. I revisit it alot. And looking through it is not a small task - i've got 38 pages of history.

But I did look through it. And I found the mod I was looking for.

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/35077 - Fallout settlements expanded. A very generic name lol

Rabble rabble! I can't get it to work mid-playthorugh though :C Looking at the comments - it's not an uncommon problem. Causes a CTD mid-playthrough for some. Guess i'm one of the some.

So, thanks for the suggestions.

Damn! It looked like the Build Your Own vault would work - but you can only build it in one of the base game settlements? And it only lets you build with vault pieces? Shoot...

I'm trying to play a witch girl, and there's this house that is pretty run down and all on it's lonesome that I don't think anybody has ever turned into a player home. I'd love to make a home there, so I was really looking forward to placing one of those functional doors on it and turning it into a witch house. x_x

Tempted to start a new playthrough over this lol

Heyas LL. LOL I know what you mean about it being a chore. Mine is currently 64 pages. Thankfully they have a search function!

I've gotta get around to cleaning that out one of these days. It's on the list. Right here above cleaning out my email. HAHAHA.

Hrm. That's really odd about the CTD on that mod. And kind of a bummer. I was looking forward to that. :(

Aye, the build your own Vault does have some limitations. I haven't tried it out yet.

It's too bad that the CK is so complicated, and that adding the workshops is something that a person really has to know what they're doing to get it right.

I used to love sitting around building homes in Morrowind. Back then... building the trap door and an extra cell would have been no problem.

I had big dreams about expanding the ownership area of Jamaica Plains when I first got this for PC. Then I tried to open the CK

I'm not sure if this would work or not. But you could try this out on a test save. There's several portable workshop mods that you "might" be able to use to throw down one of the trap doors for the Basement Living or Not Just Basements mods.

I also dunno if Place Anywhere only works in settlements or not. (I really gotta stop putting off installing that!)

Really sorry about the let-down :(

I know it sounds really petty and picky, but I don't want to use a bunker mod because the doors aren't... doors. They're trapdoors. I was hoping to have an actual door for the house @_@. Not only that, though - it looks like all those bunkers are set. Meaning, there's not infinite build space. You can only build as big as the bunker's walls will allow you to. That's no good.

On top of that - another reason this mod is more ideal is because you can place the same door that leads to the same cell/room in multiple locations. However many times you want. Meaning I can have my girl enter the witch house from alot of different places. Might sound cheaty, but she's a witch! With the bunker mod (at least one of them) you can only place one instance of it in the entire game. Not ideal.

I mean, I guess I can see if the Vault one will work outside of the vanilla settlements. Or actually... I don't mind placing it at one of the vanilla settlements - then, while still in build mode - manually walking it all the way to the house i'm talking about. I know need a map to find it lol, i've memorized the entire commonwealth terrain. I mean, it's not shaped like a normal door... and the front room looks like a vault... but can't ignore the infinite build space! Just gotta find out if it prevents you from building non-vault structures.

And installing the mod i'm talking about might work for you without a CTD, mid-playthrough. I assume it gives me a CTD because I have so many building mods already.

Also I cannot believe you aren't already using Place Anywhere. As far as I know it works everywhere that you can build. Never run into a single problem using it so far, after thousands of hours and hundreds of mods.

I just tried making a new character for this. And something is definitely wrong... The mod hasn't been updated in a while. But it was updated since I last used it. I'm gonna try using the initial release version and see if that works out on a new save. Gotta scrap the character I just made, unfortunately. Wish I hadn't put like 2 hours into dressing her up and everything... next time i'll get straight to seeing if it works first lol

Nah, I get it. You've got a big idea for the character, and you want to see that character in the game the way that you see it in your mind. Same thing I had going on with that "Shotgun Sally" character I wanted to do. But the gun was crap, and it's resisting my attempts to make it more to my liking, so I scrapped the whole idea.

(Never had a weapon refuse to accept esp changes before. Really wierd, there's something that I haven't found yet in there!)

Now, however, as far as the actual "Door" thing goes.... that's changeable in the CK. You just point it to use a different .nif. You could change it into whatever door that you want to use. Since all it really is, for something like this, is just a teleport activator.

If you really wanted to you could even use a .nif from a mirror or something, if you really wanted to get the "witchy" on. ;)

Basically anything that you can click on will work, the only limitation is your imagination ;)

But yeah, this is where I really don't like the workshop and the CK. Like I said, I could get something like this going in about 20 minutes back in Morrowind.

HAHAHA yeah. No Place Anywhere as of yet. To further blow your mind, I haven't gotten around to installing Scrap Everything yet either :D

Kinda off topic, but since you like to build, I'll go ahead and ask. Do you know of any mod that lets you build jail cells? I've got this evil idea of moving that bed that Garvey sleeps in, into a jail cell.

Also agreed, those basement mods are pretty cozy. There's not a lot of space in them.

Having access to that room from anywhere would be really handy. I can definitely see the benefits of that!

Tho there's a peril too if you decided to use it as your only storage space. If the workshop ever bugs out, and makes your stored items there inaccessible, you lose pretty much everything. So yeah, keep in mind the whole "don't put all your eggs in one basket" rule. ;)

Ok, I'm also going to teach you a trick on how to fork/branch your savegames.

If you change the name of the character, and then save the game, the game will then save the games as if that was a different character.

So for example, if I had my guy named "NATE" when I created him and I wanted to make the new savegame branch, I'd rename the character to "N4TE" (yeah, I'm being really creative here, aren't I?) and then save the game. The new save, shows up in my save game folder, as an all new save, for a completely different character.

Now, I personally, use a mod called Cheat Terminal to do my saves, because it gives me a nice, easy, interface for doing so. However, some people don't want all the cheatiness that this mod can put at their disposal.

so here's a video on how to do it via console commands.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRJUdf0Yu0g Either way, I'd watch the video, because it points out a bug that you have to work around. Where you can only have a set amount of SPECIAL points during the name change.

There was a mod on PS4 that let you reset the SPECIAL points during the name change, but I haven't found it on PC :(

This way, you don't have to repeat the process of spending all the time towards getting her dressed up and geared up the way that you want her. Do all of that, save the game. Then do the name change, and you basically have a clone save of her under a different name. ;)

Well I won't fault you for not using Scrap Everything. I don't use it either - more trouble than it's worth. But place anywhere? C'mon man. It's 2o2o.

And that whole new-save after name changing - I already got that on lock thanks to Cheat Terminal lol

But the problem is - I had the borked mod installed from the start. Does changing the name and then uninstalling the troublesome mod work? Or will the save remember that the mod was there, regardless? I assumed it would remember regardless, so I figured a simple name change wouldn't do. Isn't the scripts/code still baked into those saves?

lol I'm not really sure about which mods add jail cells. I know i've got one that adds some jail-appropriate stuff, but i'm not sure which one it is. I've never built a jail, but I actually do intend to with my witch - due to the Crime and Punishment mod. She's gonna bag some prisoners! Or uh... magic test subjects. <_< That mod is my second reason for wanting to start a new character - can't install it mid-playthru.

But nevermind anything! Problem solved by installing the initial release of Fallout Settlements Expanded. Everything's workin' tip-top now. Even better, it seems like one of my other mods is working even more now lol. I thought it was workin' fine before, but now it seems to be in overdrive. It's a good thing.

And ooo my witch is lookin' good. Much excitement!
