Rennn
I always thought of myself as an rpg fan, but lately I'm beginning to realize that I don't really like rpgs or shooters that much anymore. I loved Dragon Age: Origins, but that's a one-in-a-million masterpiece that virtually everyone liked. My other "rpgs", like Drakan The Ancients Gates for the PS2 or King's Field 4 for the PS2, aren't even really rpgs at all. And Dark Souls will always have a place in my heart, but I admit it's MUCH more like an action/adventure game than an rpg. Really, I've always considered myself an rpg fan, but almost all my favorite games are really action/adventure. I didn't even know that was a genre until recently, but when I saw that everything clicked. I love action/adventure games, mostly because of how original and responsive they are. Seeing as we can expect a ton of sales over the next couple weeks and around Christmas, I'd like recommendations for good games. I'd prefer PC games, year 2000 or newer. But I'll also look at games for the PS2, PSP, or PS3.Here's a list of my favorite games, ranked in order from 1-10, so you have an idea of what I like. I'm leaning towards the action/adventure genre, but really I'll take games from any genre..1. Dark Souls2. Zeno Clash3. Mass Effect 24. Dragon Age: Origins5. Demon's Souls6. Oblivion7. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed8. King's Field 49. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood10. Monster Hunter Freedom Unite Though not required, I would really like any games with parkour, climbing, new game+, sandbox aspects, or a first person viewpoint. Iv000
Sounds like me. (But I didn't really like DA:O that much. Yes I know, heretic, burn the heretic.)Sooo, I'll just go through my games list and tell you some that I really like and think that you will like as well. DishonoredKingdom Hearts (The whole series, 1, 2 and Re:Chain of Memories are on PS2, others are handheld. Depends really if you'll like it, it's based on Disney and Final Fantasy stuff)Legend of GrimrockProject Zomboid - (Still in alpha)Witcher 2SW: Knights of the Old republic and KOTOR 2The SaboteurMount and Blade WarbandOverlord and Overlord 2Red Faction GuerillaSTALKER - Call of Pripyat or Shadow of ChernobylMetro 2033Divinity 2 - Directors Cut/The Dragon Knight sagaTwo worlds 2 I like all very much, so it's in no particular order. I'm sure you heard of or played some or most of those anyway :P Hmm... I've played many of those actually: Divinity 2, Two Worlds 2, Red Faction Guerilla, Overlord, Metro 2033, Stalker, KOTOR and TSL, and the Saboteur. I knew about the others, but I'll certainly have to take a closer look at Dishonored. I stopped following it as soon as I saw the graphics getting worse as it neared launch (due to consoles no doubt), but if that can be grouped in with the others you listed to some degree, I'll have to look at it again. I did play the original Mount and Blade, but I could never get into it. Objectively it has everything I like in games: swords, first person, tactical battles, open worlds, politics, and yet I could never get interested in it. I suppose the lack of strong characters just made the events feel very sterile, just in my opinion of course.
Rennn
Console- Prince of Persia- God of War PC- Skyrim (with mods )- Deus Ex HR- The Witcher I/II- Neverwinter Nights I/II- Baldur's Gate I'm staying away from God of War, I just find that I can't be interested for long in something that over the top. I'll have to look at the PS3 Prince of Persia though, as it looks interesting. I've played Skyrim, but found it severly sterile and tedious, even compared to Oblivion. There are no strong characters and the quests lack any meaning (imo). Mods help a lot, but still I'd prefer a games that can stand on its own without worrying about all the updates and bugs and fixes for things that should have been in the game to begin with. I have DE HR, but my 768MB of VRAM causes severe microstutter and there's no option to turn the textures to a lower quality that I could find, so it's essentially unplayable until I get a better video card. I have the full Neverwinter Nights collection, which I bought as a pack after DAO. I can tell they're probably great games, but after playing DAO it's just too hard to play for long what are essentially more dated versions. (imo) I can't get the Witcher 2 yet, as my 460 would probably choke and die at 1080p for that game. The Witcher 1, however, I may get, since it should be much easier to run and it's on sale on Steam right now.
Iv000
You know I think you would like The Walking Dead game series, if you haven't already.Excellent story and strong characters, and while it is linear kind of there is a huge amount of choice/consequence in the game. Also Guild Wars 2 and Kingdoms of Amalur, maybe Alan Wake too. Forgot those. Well, I think I'm out of games.Assassin's Creed 3 is amazing though, Far Cry 3 looks like it's going to be huge as well. hector530
you like games with strong characters yet your favorite game is dark souls LOL The Walking Dead is great even has a "easy" mode if you dont play much adventure games. the game doesnt give you time to think of what to say next so or do unlike games like mass effect where you have unlimited time to think about a life and death monument. it can make the game really intense. Rennn
you like games with strong characters yet your favorite game is dark souls LOL In that case it's because the characters are autonomous. They don't have much dialogue, but each one is important and unique, and they do their own thing without just waiting for the player to do everything. Unlike Skyrim where most characters are clones, and if one dies you just find a replacement.
hector530
Aren't they only important because they're so few npcs? I love dark souls but I find it funny when some say ds has the greatest storytelling in video games. Also I wouldnt say npcs do there own thing. They teleport from place to place but you never even see them move only if you attack them. That and the laughable dialog and poor translations never made me care about npcs in dark souls. I killed Them at the end of the run or when they are no longer useful to me. So dark souls 20 or so npcs seem more important to skyrims 1000+ simply do to ds being a barren place filled with things that want to kill you Borderlands 2 is on sale so is dishonored there's red dead redemption which is a great game. Fallout new Vegas.
hoofhearted4
Infamous 1 and 2 for Ps3 if you like the parkour thing. absolutely loved those games. then there is Prototype. havent played (nor do i plan on) the second game. its really fun running around the city destroying everything and getting more badass as you go. however, by the end, when you should be a complete badass, you got most/all of your upgrades, and your designed to basically be unstoppable, and you should be, youre not. helicopters kill you fast. the elite soldiers kill you fast....i would have liked the game much better if i could simply jump into a base and take it out. but you cant or youll die FAST even after being fully upgraded. really ruined the fun of the game, which to me was being an unstoppable badass lol. also, i agree with The Walking Dead. i just finished the 5th and final installment of the series (though i do believe there will be a sequel) and it was absolutely amazing. im already starting in on a second play through so my gf can see cause she loves The Walking Dead (show) and shes liking the game so far too. with each episode taking idk roughly 3-5 hours or so to complete, depending on how thorough you are, times 5 episodes, you get roughly 15+ hours between all 5 episodes. and there is easily enough room for a second play through with all the options you have. at the end of each episode they tell you what the percentage of players were who went either yes or no on the big choices (not necessarily yes or no, but its always one way or the other) that said, those arent the only things that matter. everything you say to someone can affect a later dialogue option or outcome of a situation. (for the most part) considering the game is only $20 or cheaper (its always on sale), i highly recommend it, even if youre not into the Show. i played it on Ps3.
