JoeyLock
Hello! I'm an avid Elder Scrolls fan, already had Skyrim on Xbox but thought 'I've got a gaming PC now, why dont I get it cheap to install some mods!' so I bought it 50% yesterday. Was so excited, planned what mods I wanted to install, I assumed my PC would run it like butter on a knife, but there was a little 'shake' and 'lag' when starting a new character at Helgen, I thought 'Maybe its just the scene' but nope, it was still damn laggy. So I got FRAPS I was getting 9fps. So I tried installing SKSE, didn't do much except 1-2 more fps. I installed HiAlgoBoost, did nothing. I ran 'FPS Background Boost' did nothing. I even installed a plugin to SKSE 'TESV Acceleration Layer' did nothing. And now I've fiddled with the graphics some more, Skyrim now has made all the graphics blurry and scratchy even though it's highest settings. Here is my PC specs: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bitIntel Core i5-2380P CPU @ 3.10Ghz, 3401 Mhz 4 CoreATI Radeon HD 54001Terrabyte Disk Drive8 GB RAM Anymore specs, just ask. From my medium knowledge of computers and specs, I'm pretty damn sure my PC should be able to run Skyrim at 60 fps. On the menu with the quests, it's a smooth 60 FPS. However in some houses it goes up to 20fps, outside its 9-11fps and even the map-inventory menu lags at a 11fps. I can't see what is going wrong, my PC should be able to run this damn game on Ultra settings, yet even on low low low settings, it still lags, I can't tell what it is. Something is holding it back because its so close to being smooth running, yet nothing changes it. Any help? Please? I'm getting ready to kick this PC soon. Edited November 24, 2012 by JoeyLock
ginnyfizz
This is a laptop, yes? Sounds like it with that graphics.I am sorry to say but I think your graphics chip is the problem. It will not run Skyrim on Ultra, maybe more like medium.

It was a stock body with some stock add-ons, with separate HP and Cyborg keyboard and monitor so its not an official PC. Whys that? EDIT: It's a Galaxy 3 Gaming PC with a certain build. Aryube
You didn't specify which graphics card exactly only the series (5400). But anyway they are really outdated graphics cards so you should buy the newer 79xx ati models or the new Nvidia 6xx cards.

That's cause when I looked at my settings it didn't tell me which exactly, just said 'HD 5400'. How much do these new ones cost?
Lawlacaust
That card series is REALLY bad for gaming sad to say...and seeing its a labtop you might be out of luck even my desktop card HD 4850 runs better then that and its only 512 video ram "EDIT" Here is a link to what your card can do and others http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_AMD_graphics_processing_units#Mobility_Radeon_HD_5xxx_Series Edited November 24, 2012 by Lawlacaust

None of those fancy up-to-date £400-500 cards. I found this: http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/amdradeongraphicscards/amdhd7750series/r7750-2gd3.html MSI AMD Radeon HD 7750 2048MB GDDR3 Would that be up to the job of running Skyrim on Ultra/High + Mods? Madatom
oh god they marketed that thing as a gaming PC the only thing you can do now is upgrade the GPU but in the future dont buy prebuilt machines
Lawlacaust
HD 7850 would be much much better seeing it has 256 Bus width and your computer would run like a true boss and th card itself isnt that costly you can buy one right now for 185 bucks with free shipping http://www.ebay.com/itm/PowerColor-AX7850-2GBD5-DH-Radeon-HD-7850-2GB-256-bit-GDDR5-PCI-Express-3-0-/380507307390?pt=PCC_Video_TV_Cards&hash=item589800bd7e

I got my Sapphire Radeon 6670 for $50 off newegg. I think the newest models are about 299 but you could easily upgrade what you have for under that. Check out www.newegg.com and www.tigerdirect.com for the best deals on hardware. Keep in mind though that, generally speaking, a laptop (gaming or not) will not compare to a desktop. Due to how laptops are designed, everything is confined, the wattage is lower, heat is a much bigger issue etc.
