Freezes with audio still working

Title says it all. I launch the game and manage to play it for just about one or two minutes, then it freezes, though I can still hear the game music playing in the background. This leaves my no choice but to Ctrl-Alt-Del and End Process.

I've tried cleaning all the mods, sorting them through LOOT, and creating a bashed patch - no luck. I have attached details below.

I have played the game in the past, on this laptop, so it can't be a hardware issue...

Any help would be appreciated!

have you tried loading an earlier game save, to see if maybe it's an issue with that particular savefile? Some broken saves CTD on load, some stall at the loading screen, and some will load but only partly.

FWIW, If you didn't already try that and you're willing to try it, I'd go back a few levels, as a bad save often has several bad saves nearby, which can lead to a belief something is broken in the game, rather than the save or a series of contiguous saves... Not saying your problem IS a savefile issue, but it's worth checking, since sometimes things go wrong (for whatever reason) and are unnoticed until one tries to load a game save that *is* broken...

Such a freeze is usually the result of the RAM or GPU not coping with the load/render speed the game asks. It's a bit like the infinite load screen where no new frames are loaded into the RAM because the RAM doesn't get flushed and the game waits for new frames. Temperatures of CPU and/or GPU getting too high can also cause it or mods clashing severely during the load process of the area you're in. That's as far as my 'knowledge' goes, however.

yea, that didn't help. CTDs and freezes happened regardless of which saves I was using

I tried downgrading my graphics drivers and it seems to have helped. The first freeze happened after more than 20 minutes this time. In your opinion, would it help if I bought more RAM?

Providing that laptop can be upgraded and if the motherboard accepts more RAM AND if you are going to use that laptop for a while (meaning you find the laptop worth investing in) then more RAM is never a bad thing. But like I mentioned, first check what the maximum RAM capacity is of the laptop's motherboard and how much RAM is accepted per slot. If the laptop is a Hewlett-Packard, better also check if the brand of RAM you'd like to get is accepted. HP are dicks when it comes to protecting their 'own' brand even though they don't manufacture anything besides printers (saw it's a Lenovo just now).

If you've lost the laptop's manual, check the manufaturer's website.

Okay. I can use up to a max of 16 gb RAM, according to my laptop manual (Lenovo G50-80). I'll try getting at least 4 gb more.

That laptop has a Celeron CPU and integrated graphics? I wouldn't bother spending money on it then. Rather start shaking some trees and use the money towards a brand new desktop.

No, it comes with two Intel i3 Core CPUs and a Radeon R5 M330 graphics card. Also I can't afford a desktop yet:/
