SKSE removed, can't move it back

Hello,

When I try to launch skse a pop-up says that the element skse64_loader.exe was changed or moved. In the folder steamapps > common > sse that file is gone, so I download it again to try reinstall SKSE.

However, when I move the skse files to the sse folder, there is another pop-up says that I need to provide admin permissions to move to that folder (steamapps > common > sse).

If I try to continue or to omit nothing happens and I can't move the skse loader, so I can't launch skse.

I know there wasn't an update today and my skse is 2.00.17. Any ideas?

Forgive me if this is a very simple or obvious situation, I'm not good at modding or coding.

Thank you :)

Sounds like a permission issue in Windows. Or maybe some antivirus program acting in strange ways.

Did you install Skyrim on your system drive? In the past, Windows had a tendency to regard games and other software installed on the system drive (for most people C:) as part of the operating system - meaning those folders were set to write-protected. Don't know if this bug still persists. Maybe it's still a good idea to install Skyrim (and other games) on a different drive than the system drive used by Windows. At least that was the common recommendation in earlier times.

So, what can you do? Check the permissions of your Skyrim folder. Make sure it isn't write-protected or something. Also check your AV software, if it flags certain folders as write-protected.

If everything else fails, log in with your admin account and copy the missing files as administrator.

Sounds more like an anti-virus issue where the A/V placed the exe in quarantine. Check your A/V and set an exception for skse. Anti-virus programs often block he skse launcher because skse changes 'system folders' (by adding saves and back-ups to the Skyrim SE folder inside the My Games directory, which is a system folder).
