vashts1985
well ive successfully added some new ammo to the game, but with doing stuff like that there is a very great chance of conflicts between other mods trying to do the same thing. im proposing a community driven "master AMMO list" that anyone could make contributions to and sets a standard for anyone that wishes to use new ammo with a new weapon. simply put it could be freely distributed with any community made mod and one could "point" their new weapon to the FormID's contained in the master file. the master file would take care of vendor distribution and loot rates, and people could as well point their mods to them. im gonna start using a standard file of sorts in conjunction with my weapons so i dont conflict with myself. thoughts?
FutureVisions
Great idea. Many mods coming up atm and even more to come, this will help tons with compatibility between mods. And better sooner then later, cause the more mods ppl have installed the more difficult it'll become to find the problems. madcaddie
You'd also want to include the loot tables for the actual weapons in this as well.
vashts1985
that might be possible but id suggest that once we get enough content flowing in we make a similar file for weapons, in conjunction with packs. i imagine we would be seeing a crap-ton more weapons than ammo and i would think trying to encompass entirety of them would become convoluted and maybe even fruitless depending on how fast they are getting added. ammo however is a better subject for this because the information can be controlled and reused for may different weapon mods
asonofashadow
I propose that every week newly submitted ammunition or other cross compatible content be updated and distributed.
BulletSix
yes please :) and since it doesn´t seem to be possible to have different ammo-types for a gun, nearly the only differentiation would be the caliber so this seems controllable. This doesn´t have to include any weapons since its possible to reference to other .esp-files.(e.g. GunA calls for a repair list that is not in the same .esp)... yeah, i could just have stated the obvious *g* Edit: A somewhat related question, sorry if this goes too much ot: lets say we have a master ammo list. Then Mod "A" would put ammo "A" into the inventory of trader "A".Another Mod ("B") would like to put another Ammo "B" into the inventory of the same Trader "A". Since the FormID doesn´t conflict thanks to the master-ammo-list, does the "add ammo to the inventory of the trader" part still conflict? Or do you define addtions to game-variables (like a trader inverntory) rather than the whole variable ( =trader inventory)? In other words: if you add an item to a inventory list is it 1) "add this FormID to this List with the given chance of existance and/or amount"or is it2) you define the whole inventory-list in the mod, replacing the default inventory of the trader? with 1) the "only" concern would be not to have duplicate FormIDs, 2) would be (much) more of a hassle for combining/merging/having more than one gun-mod ... xchapelx
I can't back this suggestion enough!... A game that modders made a million and one weapons for was Operation Flashpoint and it was established early on that every man and his mod team had their own ideas about bullet statistics (ROF, Muzzle Velocity, Damage, etc) which resulted in every team having different values and therefore extremely unbalanced weapons. The solution to this (in 2002-ish) was a unified ammunition standard called JAM (Joint Ammo + Magazines). It was accepted in the community and yay there was balance. To reiterate, I couldn't agree with this idea any more if I tried and I was actually thinking about suggesting it today... Kudos to you.
veliv
Good idea. Although I would recommend that we should no go overboard with the amount of available ammotypes. It will prolly only confuse the average player:) Just need to make sure that it would only affect the ammo loottables instead of direct vendors.
