Havenost
Anyone know if there is a mod to fix the annoying invisible walls / collision meshes for Fallout 4 like there was in Fallout New Vegas. I am talking about how you can't shoot through like hand railings or picnic tables that have clear and obvious gaps. Gets pretty annoying when you unload 5 rounds and forget that the Raider with 90% of his body exposed hiding behind a picnic table can't be killed due to the invisible hitboxes. Heres the mod I am talking about from FNV. https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/59149 Edited March 7, 2020 by Havenost
jjb54
I just killed several through gaps in walls, tables, railings and broken windows with my gun. I guess I did not know this was an issue?

I guess I did not know this was an issue? Are you playing with a modded game? Cause you might have a mod that changes the meshes in the game. Almost all the gaps in metal railings like on bridges, catwalks, chain link fences, along with picnic tables have invisible hitboxes. I can take my gun and just shoot at the gap and see sparks coming out of the gap I shot at. Cars and buildings also have have like 1-2 inches of invisible corners too. jjb54
I actually expected that honest question from you - so I went back and started a fresh game with only DLC's and ZERO MODS. Did not even use FO4 SE. Still had no issues shooting between, ( well the Raider's did ) ;) under and through grates and such ....
StormWolf01
Hiyas Havenost. I'm curious as to why your're having this issue as well. What game version do you have installed? I started playing with game version .130 (Ok wait, that's a lie. I started playing on the PS4 originally. NO clue what game version THAT was!) but for PC, I've never had the problem that you're having.EXCEPT, with weapons that fire larger projectiles, and/or energy weapons. Guns that shoot very large projectiles like Plasma, are very difficult to "Thread the Needle" with, due to the size of the ball of plasma. Lasers also have a surprisingly large projectile. Another thing that really helps is having the penetrator perk. LOL Ok, this isn't anything related to the problem that you're having, but the situation kinda demands that it be said. "Any problem can be solved with the proper application of explosives." Hand grenades are awesome when I can't hit them because of cover :D

My laptop's CPU isn't as good as my desktop one so OBS tanked my performance pretty hard. Now as you can see there are a whole bunch of different things that have invisible collision meshes. Its not always consistent, as you can see some railings can't be shot through while other ones can. Same with the gaps in the cars. Apparently some picnic tables can be shot through while others can't. Some parts of the car can be shot through but others can't, as you can see you can't shoot out the rear window or sun roof some of the cars. You can't shoot through the window of the truck. Corner piece of the spikey fence, etc... Apparently you can shoot through the chain link fences on the overpass but not others. jjb54
I think you explained what is going on. It's likely your computer video - CPU. Admittedly I have a high end computer - cpu and video. So that might be the difference. I talked w/a friend of mine and he shared that he had similar issues w/his lower end computer that you described. Not sure what the answer is, 2/b honest. DO NOT USE THE BETH VIDEO DLC - ADDONS .. those actually do more harm than good. I"ll try to do some homework on some mod ideas that might help, so give a me a couple of days. Has nothing to do with my CPU ROFL! There are just railings that can't be shot through. I even showed it to you in the video where certain things constantly can't be shot through while others can. If you have ever played any games in general this is a common problem where the 3D modeler or developer forget to disable collisions for certain parts of the model or doesn't map out out collision and hitboxes properly. It has nothing to do with my CPU's performance. Go in your game and try shooting the same things I shot at and you will encounter the same thing. Go look at the mod I linked in my first post. It has a bunch of images showing you what causes it. Here are some examples from Fallout NV's models Edited March 8, 2020 by Havenost
jjb54
okay, sorry - please forgive me. I was going on what a friend went through with his computer and what you have stated. ADDED - Plus as was stated, this seems to be specific to your computer, as was also stated by me in a follow-up and the test that I ran and one other post. Again, I'm sorry, I was trying to help ... but obviously failed. Good luck.
zakcat2001
I've been able to snipe at raiders at Corvega through the catwalk grates hit and miss which makes sense as some bullets get through and some wont and can hit through most gaps but sometimes my fire has been blocked between very narrow gaps of geometry. I suspect the collision tolerances are not uniform in the game.
