Wheatunrye
Bought the Fallout 3 GOTY edition from Steam when it was on sale a few months ago and started trying to mod it and the game crashes as soon as I start it up. It's not a load order problem, because I only put one mod. Here's what I do: I run FOSE, download and install the Mod Manager, (I've tried with both Nexus Mod Manager and FOMMthen run the ArchiveInvalidation Invalidated thing. and at this point everything runs fine. I start up Fallout through FOSE and it works.then I install the NMCs Texture Pack, which is a simple mod to install, it works, I run Fallout and everything's fineThen I install almost any other mod either through one of the Mod Managers or manually and then the game wont work. as soon as it starts up it's experiences a problem and stops responding. Now I'm not new to modding, I've modded the hell out of Morrowind and Oblivion, but I just can't see what I'm missing here. It's not a load order thing cus it does it with just one mod, I've tried Fallout 3 Redesigned AKA Project Beauty, Primary Needs, Fallout Street Lights, Enhanced Weather, before reaching out on the Forums, each time with a fresh Fallout install each time the process listed above and just a single mod and then it crashes my game. HOWEVER it gets weirder because when I worked my way through the GECK tutorial and loaded the mod I made it worked, and also the weapon mod I made myself, simply a unique gun in a chest, worked as well. but none of these other more extensive mods work. I just don't under stand. Can anyone please help?
Valahul
Does your game crash and you get the "Close Application" menu? or your in-game.. minding your own business and then you suddenly can't move? And also.. if you have a multicore computer you need to edit your Fallout.iniRead the posts in this Thread for more info http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/201495-fallout-3-crash-fix-guide/
M48A5
If you installed the game to the default location (Program Files), you are experiencing a clash with Windows User Account Control. If so, you have two options. Install the game in a place on your hard drive outside of Program Files or disable the UAC.
Wheatunrye
to M48A5, it's not in Program Files so that's good.to Valahul, It crashes on start up. I start the game, my screen goes black and then fails instantly, sometimes it'll start up the menu music and then fail before any video starts. About the multi core thing, that's what I thought, I have a quad core processor and found that when I was looking, but then when I tried the fix for it, it didn't work. What confuses me about it is vanilla Fallout runs fine without the multi core work around thing. Is it only mods that cause trouble? I might have done the fix wrong. I'll try it again. Valahul
If you have problems with your sound.. then try installing K-Lite Codec PackAnd if your game crashes on start-up.. it can be that a mod is not working properly.. try to run the game with one mod at a time.. and keep adding mods until your game crashes.. to see which mod is to blame. Wheatunrye
it doesn't seem to be a music problem and it's not any one mod, that's what I was explaining. I tryed exactly what you were saying, load one mod at a time and see what happens, and the first mod crashed it. so then I wiped it clean and started over again starting with a different mod and that one crashed it.whichever one I try the first one I try crashes the game. JessicaPH
It could be a problem with modding the hud, that has caused crashes for me, especially when I incorrectly changed the ini files.
Wheatunrye
Well got it working again. don't know what I did but it worked for awhile, and now it has different problems. when the game starts up it goes through the opening menu slides and there's no mouse, and then when it gets to the main menu page there's no text. then it stops responding. anyone had that problem before? Wheatunrye
well now it's working a little more even. what gets me is each time it gets fixed I have NO IDEA what i did to fix it, or what the problem was in the first place. now all my mods are working except a pipboy retexture
