Lower VATS Hit Chance

Recommended Posts

Started a play through of New Vegas. Went into VATS for the first time, and the chance to hit everything is 95 even at a distance. Only using NMC textures, YUP, and Unofficial Patch. This seems off. I don't remember it being this easy right from the start.

Is there a mod to lower the Hit Chance? Or maybe something I can edit. I'm familiar with GECK and FNVEdit.

Vats accuracy was super nerfed from Fallout 3, so that does sound unusual. It generally takes Perks, high perception, high skills, and a high accuracy weapon to even get +60% at moderate distances.

You're using YUP *and* "unofficial patch"? YUP is itself a very extensive patch, and the one most commonly recommended. I would assume there's a conflict there.

So I went ahead and disabled all mods. Still the same high hit chance. Using the console I changed my Strength and Guns skill to 1. The hit chance was exactly the same. Anyone know what's going on or where hit chance gets calculated?

Just disabling the mods probably won't clear it up with using the same save. Start a new game.

And even then it may still persist without clearing out your data folder , or redoing the .ini

I would guess a game setting is getting set to that , albeit a derived outcome is probably the case here .

If the new save and/or new .ini doesn't help.

See if you can use this in game in the console to see what it tells you.

No. When you say "disabled mods", do you mean they are no longer in the game "Data" folder and you have "verified local files" so the vanilla ones were restored, and then toggled "ArchiveInvalidation" off-and-on-again? Please see the 'Restoring to "Vanilla"' section of the wiki "FNV General Mod Use Advice" article.

Started a clean save, low Strength and low Guns skills without mods. Problem persisted. Even from a distance, the lowest any chance to hit was 78 and everything else was 88 or 95. Is that normal?

Interesting you are getting lower results . Hence the console stuff to give info.

I don't think we can take this experiement seriously unless you take control of it.

Otherwise we are just floating iDeA's to see what you can do with them.

Not really a good platform with which to solve your problem. But might make for some interesting forum content :turned:

Okay I completely restored to vanilla. and the problem persists.

I also used the console and got some of the VATS game settings. Some of the options returned as NONE. Beyond that, nothing really related to calculating chance to hit.

You say that as if it is our problem ? And obviously you did not restore to vanilla.

Are you saying they specifically wrote the game to mess with you ?

Take control of your files , stop being a putz.

What's with the hostility? All I said was that I did as you both suggested, and the problem persisted. That isn't your problem, it's my problem. One I've never come across in all the time I've played Fallout 3 and New Vegas. Why do you have any issue with me looking for a solution using the advice of others?
