Audio Problems in Oblivion

Posted something like this in the wrong section recently. Sorry to moderators. I'm having audio problems with vanilla Oblivion. Can't get audio when I'm conversing with people, or when I'm in lock-pick mode, or any other mode that takes you out of just regular exploring. As soon as I engage a conversation the audio goes away completely.

I've tried this with the latest patch and without, as well as the unofficial patch, and without.

Any ideas??

I'm running Vista x64 but from my research that shouldn't be causing these specific problems.

This seems to point something messed with your sounds folder. Try finding out if it got misplaced, inspect the files. If they are gone for whatever reason you should reinstall your game. If things goes so deep as reinstalling and you want to keep your actual configuration and have doubts about how do it, ask bben46 to point out a good tuto he did that explains as to do so seamlessly.

About Vista... I'm not so sure it not being the cause. Vista have some security issues that forbid the own user access to anything it deems the user should not...

Resolved! It wasn't Vista. I simply enabled virtual surround on my audio and its fixed. Some Google searching revealed a lot of people have had this issue and enabling some kind of surround sound fixed it for some, and some .ini file tweaks fixed it for others.
