The 200 year old weapon rant

Besides the fact that its so totally funny imagening people biting in their keyboard, because someone has a different opinion than theirs about game content :)

So basically what you're trying to tell me is that you're a troll, trying to annoy people? I should have guessed after that previous fit, I suppose.

How about you stop _polluting_ the thread then? We have enough noise in the signal as it is, we don't need yet another troll trying to make people "bite in their keyboard."

Opinions are fine. Trust me, not many people are going to bite in the keyboard because you like rust. Polluting a thread with useless drivel to fuel that fantasy, is not, though.

No, im not trying to make people bite in their keyboards. Its one of those topics where both factions do in argumentation.

And that makes it in my opinion a rather senseless topic.

Why is there a discussion, when the logic tells me:

I only download what i like.

People here start to act as if they would have to life with the outcome of this topic for the rest of their life.

This has been an interesting topic. Don't force me to shut it down by allowing it to degenerate into a flame fest. Play nice or play somewhere else.

I don't think you some of you people realize:

A. How long 200 years really is.

B. Nuclear bombs will generally F.S.U

C. 200 years of Dust storms will generally F.S.U

Not to mention, if bombs fell right now, what's one of the first three things you'd get. A gun. You might take care of it, but the super mutants probably won't. Or it might just end up lying next to a skeleton for 140 years. With no way to create new weapons, every gun someone has, will have probably seen long periods of neglect.

thats assuming there is no way to create new weapons.

creating new guns is exactly what the "gun runners" from Fo2 were doing. smitty from Fo1 was also manufacturing weapons

folks in the middle east make knock off fire arms in a blacksmith pit that would not look outa place in Medieval England

the manufacture of new weapons in the fallout universe happens and for reality's sake, is the only way to justify so many working weapons

Ah yes. The 200 year old rant about weapons. And still it continues.

Heh heh heh... Wow. 6 pages of this. And unless I missed it in my skimming, I didn't see one mention of the fact that there's ammo EVERYWHERE even after 200 years. Now THAT is by far the most unrealistic thing of all. And ammo, btw, is far less likely to survive the elements than the firearms that eat it.

As for this topic, I have a 10 year old 9mm and a 50 year old sks. The sks was stored in a dry place and coated in cosmoline. The finish looks brand new. The pistol was stored under the previous owner's mattress in a damp climate, was completely covered in rust, and looked like poo when I got it. Despite this, after a good cleaning, while the surface is pitted and cosmetically flawed, it functions flawlessly. No mythical pistol-grenade due to surface rust.

I guess my point is this: How nice it looks will vary a great deal on how much the weapon's been "babied". Regardless of this, though, the finish will go FAR before the weapon's rendered irreperable.

My assumption is that most weapons would be scavenged from the ruins of the destroyed civilization. There would have course be quite a few exceptions to this, but if you dig something out of a destroyed house it's probably not gonna look so pretty.

And with that, I'm going to try my damnedest to distance myself from this topic, and save my feet to kick other dead horses.

I think a Fallout player should suspend their disbelief.

There are several details in the Fallout series which I can't get my mind around. But when I suspend my disbelief, I find these details unobtrusive to the gameplay experience. So why let your disappointment over a "mint 200-year old gun" ruin your gameplay experience?

I just wanted to put this out there... Did any one else notice the weapons are- well... NOT in perfect condition? The hunting rifles are CLEARLY just made out of scrap metal, the guns are all half damaged, and other weapons actually come from people who can make and care for them... It's not like the weapons have been lying on the ground for 200 years, raiders may have made them recently, and even they probably keep care of there gear.
