vashts1985
i use inventor at school /RAGE/. got a student copy of solid works here on my pc and id much rather be using that. may get to play around with UG next semester in school and at a co-op:D as for converting, max is much friendlier for artistic uses that solid works....i think. CAD does not really care how many polygons its throws into a model. it does not need to
jaysus
it does not need to well only true if one assumes that every user has a render farm at hand... i once waited 12 bloody hours for one pic... and at my last uni there were some guys who made a model that crashed the whole system... 40+ macs some servers and some 20+ silicon graphic mashines... thx god it didnt spread to the pcs lol
vashts1985
well.....why are you using CAD to make renders? ;)

vashts1985
heh not that max or maya would perform any better. i guess visulisations are one thing, and i dont know architectural for crap (im specializing in mechanical) but for the most part the program is just used to build the model and then produce a 2d layout (or a rapid 3d print), or in autocad's case, build a 2d layout. i guess that was my case in point
hellboundindefensis
Modelling... mmm i wish... i might look into it, my gf can draw and is reasonably creative, maybe i can come up with some new models/retextures of ... i dunno.... general crap around the wasteland for a start? ManIndaHat
ok, for 1 im using the new version of blender and i fesperately need help exporting this UV map. AND 2, how hard do you think it would be to extend the blade on the ripper?
jaysus
@vashuh good point... getting max models to 2d drawings is horrible... but then again i dont usually design stuff you could easily build with 2d plans lol... but ya had my fair share of trouble and in the end had to redraw everything in a cad proggie as not even autocad could turn my mesh to straight lines and my retarded profs just couldnt understand a 3d model... heck they didnt even understand english and gave me bad grades for naming my drawings in that language which, regarding the fact that even theyr german homepage is partly in english "university of applied science", is utterly disgraceful imo but enough ranting about bad universities... i bet all universities suck in one way or another (the 2 i tried at least did) ------------------- @hatman cant answer you much on blender but shouldnt there be a button or somin saying "render" or "save" in the uvmap window? as to the ripper, i dont think thatd be hard... the animations could stay the same and just making the thing longer is like resizing an image in photoshop or somin... a good way to start id say
