Getting Rid of Neck Gap With Custom Race

Hi Everyone,

I am trying to create a custom race for NPCs that is exactly the same as the standard human race. However, whenever I try to fit on any armor, the ugly-looking neck gap in the first attachment appears which I don't seem to be able to fully address.

I've tried several approaches to try to address this - the first was to just start playing with Armor Addon and Armor values in FO4Edit; needless to say that didn't work. I also installed the neck gap fix (https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/38286?tab=images), which resulted in a smaller but still noticeable neck gap, as seen in the second attachment. However, I'd prefer to find a way to get rid of the neck gap completely.

I did also happen find the following post on LoversLab - https://www.loverslab.com/topic/70417-i-need-help-with-a-custom-body-mod-i-am-making-neck-seam-gap/, but my exported NIF doesn't appear in game and you just get a head with a transparent torso where the armor is supposed to be. This may just be due to my inexperience with 3ds Max, however. Any advice on how to get rid of these neck gaps, either through the LoversLab method or any other method, would be greatly appeciated!

heyas RZ. Ok, so before I get too far into this, I just wanna say... I'm about 80% sure that LL is a blacklisted site here on the nexus. So as far as that goes, if it IS a BL site, we can't post links to it. Just so ya know. Again, not 100% sure, but really heavily thinking it's on the No-Go list.

Ahhh, the infamous CBBE neck seam. It's because they took a single mesh and turned it into a 2-piece mesh. And then couldn't get the textures to line up correctly. The head is a separate mesh from the body in this game.

It's an issue that you'd have to fix in a 3d editor program. And then get permission to release from the MA afterwards since it involves edits to their mod.

Not anymore. It was for a while, but ever since LL added an 18+ warning a few years back, it's been OK to post links to it.

Hey thanks for the response! I might have posted this in the wrong forum, as the mod isn't anyone else's. I've just been creating new armor addons with vanilla armors, but under a custom race.

I compared the vertices bordering the neck in the armor versus the standard head NIF in 3ds Max, and it looks like there are slight differences in the weights - usually 0.001 or 0.002 large. From your experience, is this difference enough to cause the neck seam (ie do the weights have to match EXACTLY or are small differences okay)?

Also, when exporting the NIF file out of 3ds Max, all I get is a transparent body with no model. Do you have to do anything extra to get the body in-game after 3ds Max export?
