"GECK Extender" v0.33 released this morning.

You *MUST* patch a fresh GECK.exe with the provided patcher as of version 0.33 and later for proper functionality
Install the plugin
Run GECK.exe

Installation:

Install with an appropriate mod manager or manually move the NVSE folder in to your Data folder.
Remove any previous version of GECK Extender (GaryHax.dll).
Remove any version of GECK Power UP you may have installed.

Compatibility:

Compatible with all NVSE script extender plugins.
Do NOT use with GECK Power Up or GECK Power Up Fork. GECK Extender supersedes them.

If you use or plan to use GECK, then you need this.

Best laid plans and all that. The latest update (v0.33) has been pulled because of false detections by multiple AV products as a generic "cryptocoin stealing browser extension" (huh? say how?), which the author is currently unable to determine how to resolve. (From the mod comments page.)

Good point. Caught me in one of those "unconscious assumptions".

One of the features of the "GECK Extender" is an optional 4GB Patcher program for the GECK. This fixes some memory constraints and enables it to automatically work with NVSE (just like for the Steam version of the game) and the "assumption" I made was that anyone already interested in the Extender was aware of this. Of course, if you never patched the GECK previously (or are using the GOG version? Is there one?), then you don't need to "revert".

Thanks for asking that.

I have the GoG version, but don't remember if it installed the Geck with it or I got the Geck later. If it has it, GoG will likely have already done the 4G patch (like it does with the game's exe). But, since the 4G patcher just toggles a bit in the exe file, why would that affect what the extender installer needs to do?

I do have a GeckBackup.exe file. So, I believe I ran the 4K patcher myself.

According to the description on the Extender patcher download page:

A patcher to make your GECK 4GB aware and also auto load NVSE as well as fix many bugs in the edit forms.

It has always been my impression (can't even call it "understanding") that making the Steam version of the game 4GB aware involved more than simply flipping that LAA bit. It was necessary to work around various internal checks to get it to work with the the Steam loader in the very earliest versions. Always assumed similar was necessary for the GECK, but I have never felt the need to dig into the internals of either when there are others more motivated to do so.

For more details you need to ask Roy. I simply noticed that one bit of crucial information buried in the description and felt it was likely to trip up anyone who merely saw "New release! Automatic download."

Why would my Geck.exe need to be "reverted to vanilla"? What would have changed it from vanilla?

Simply because this new modification to the geck starts with the vanilla. And (in theory) had you tried to apply their modification not being vanilla. It would then create an un intended consequence.

Albeit maybe not necessary . I totally understand the new modification writers saying they would request that you start from vanilla. In order to assure the results are what they intended.

Same as lines in scripts for fail safe consequences ... should we/they see it any other way ?

I suppose they could go with >>> Here's a New One ... Let err Rip !

I guess I have to be honest though ... I am not one to try new stuff until many many guinea pigs have posted results. Since I don't enjoy being a guinea pig.

And the draw of newer bigger better has no effect on me.
