screen goes black

i recently made some changes to config files in addition to get the highest fps with my super low-end laptop, idk if i can make those settings lower than they are or nah but after u changed ugridstoload from 5 to 2 and buffer size from 36 to 9 was the best thing that helped me to get the highest performance but after that i'm facing with an issue idk when will it occur but sometimes even if the laptop doesn't have that much heat the screen goes black in middle of the game mostly i know my laptop for heating up and then turning off but this seems different idk what is triggering it maybe the last settings i made? it just gets stuck on black screen and the only thing to do is to turn off the system by force :/

I'll say this simply: Fallout 4 is not laptop friendly.

That said there are things you can check on.

1. Is sleep or hybrid sleep turned on. This is a Windows issue that has persisted for years. Some systems can handle it others can't.

2. Hybernate is another one, but that usually works.

3. If suspend is on that's another Windows issue.

You'll need to go into your power plan and check through the advanced options. Go through all of the tree, check all settings. Do not turn off the hard disk (set that to never), set any sleep or suspend to never (you can type that in, in some cases), set the monitor to turn off after the amount you want, and make sure the system will keep an eye on USB and not shut that off. That USB piece is how you'll wake up the computer, though you should have a sleep/wake button that you can set actions to, along with the power button and closing the lid. Do check those settings.

Now that that's done, get something like Core Temp that can monitor and log your cpu and graphics card temps. This will help determine if Fallout 4 is just too much for the laptop to handle (due to overheating and overtaxing those parts). Also check your BIOS as to what thermal throttling it wants to do (this keeps your system from frying). Do check on what the maximum temp is that your cpu and graphics card can handle. This is assuming separate hardware/chips, but you might have an APU chip (or similar) where the graphics and CPU chips are on the same die, thus one part to swap for upgrades, though usually the laptop maker makes those so once they're in they stay there. Some laptops have the graphics card as a replaceable/upgradeable item, but yours doesn't sound like one of those.

If you do have a heat problem, cleaning the inside of that laptop may help (get a pro to do this if it's under warranty or you don't know how to do it yourself) and if you can, get a separate thermal cooling device to sit under the laptop to cool it down, these can be specific to your laptop, or generic. Research will be needed on your end. By the way, a hot laptop on your lap even if you're clothed is a very bad idea regardless of gender. Put that laptop on a surface where air can get all around it and the laptop can vent that heat. Absolutely nothing, and I repeat nothing, should be in the way of those vents or be able to block them.

I hope all that helps and you will want to check those temp logs.

Hey bbiller, thanks for the time I gotta say I'm getting this problem like this, just after I realized that there are 3 lines of ugridstoload and 2 buffersize so I made them all to 2-9 + some other adjustment i wanted to test like even lowering the shadow resolution disabling mostly everything, pretty much I can say that just the gore effect is on and about the issue, 3 or 4 times the screen went black but like anytime before.

This lap top is mostly in good shape till now it's a lifebook ah530 but I can't find anything about the real model my spec is : Core i5 480m + 4gb ram + and I haven't configured yet about the gpu from the start the driver name was mobility radeon hd 5000 series but I searched it's ven & dev id in devicehunt and I got 4 results but google was trying to tell me that those id's belong to radeon 6350m these are Legacy gpus so I installed it's driver and it went smooth with restart but the name of it haven't changed yet, I'm really curious to know what's been going on with this system.

Right after I read 2nd phrase I went to to advanced power settings but I never needed to go there it was working fine but I have already set hard to never, I think the issue was being triggered after I made those final changes I can send you the config files, and about the heat it's not common that much anymore since I vacuumed the fan after a long time and the heat won't make the laptop to turn off anymore like before even after I use my other hard that have bad sectors, it was like hibernate and it turned off once completely this time and after that I entered the building with having the issue.

Here are the config files made by bethini if anybody can make these even better share it with me too -> Direct Link (Scanned by Virustotal)

A reason for an infinite black screen is when the RAM stops being flushed and no new textures can get buffered. The ambient sound and music continue, but the screen stays black. It can happen even on high-end machines, usually when there's a problem with meshes that somehow cannot be loaded. The meshes aren't missing (otherwise the game would crash), they just stop being loaded into the RAM. I haven't heard of a solution to it other than quitting the game and restarting it and hope it won't happen again.

i just happens sometimes but i can't quit the game either so i just have to turn off the lap top, so if this happening because of the new config files i have to live with it cause it makes my game worse.

Change the settings in the launcher. Under "options" set the game to open windowed and borderless. That way you can intervene with the 'Ctrl' key or the 'Ctrl+Alt+Del' combination (calls-up the Task Manager where you can kill the game's process).

that's not the problem the monitor screen goes off and idk why it doesn't turn off when it's not heating

I'v read your other post and the problem is you want to participate in a formula one race with a Toyota Corolla from 1972. Your laptop cannot handle the game. You have a piss-poor CPU and a GPU that wasn't built for gaming with 1GB of VRAM and you've got 4GB of system RAM. There's nothing that will help besides getting a decent computer. I mean, I am poor but trying to game with your laptop would have me getting a rope and searching for a high tree. Or sell the rope and the tree, do a striptease show for my neighbor for a month and use the profits to get something better in the PC department. End of line.

xDDDDDDD yo man that was kinda savage, I do want to buy a rope but i don't even have the money to buy that either and i was too amazed what games i can play even crisis trio xDDDD, I'm thinking to buy a better computer but I don't have the minimum budget yet. I wanted to upgrade the ram to 8 gb with a ram i found from an old laptop i had, it was broken tho -.-
