mikekearn
I don't understand why people constantly compare Oblivion with Fallout 3. They are two entirely dissimilar games. Things in common: FPS RPG, made by Bethesda.Things not in common: everything else. Each has it's strengths and weaknesses. It depends almost exclusively on what sort of gameplay you prefer as to which you will see as the superior game. Comparing them isn't like comparing apples and oranges, it's like comparing apples and car stereos. It doesn't even make sense.
Werewolf334
just to poke some fun around :D it's like comparing apples and car stereosBoth can be red, yellow, or green. Both can be refreshing. Both can be smashed. You can both watch and listen to both of them (lol), but I think watching the paint dry is far more entertaining. HAH Anyways... The reason why people compare games is for a conversation, debate, or to share opinions. "People enjoy insight about things they love and hate." Guest
Just as a note, I do notice a lot of "hey, oblivion!" when I'm playing through Fallout 3. Not that this is a bad thing. For example: -Fast travel-Excessive plates/clipboards/bottles (In elder scrolls, it was parchment, pots, plates, etc.)-In 3rd person, when you move forward and strafe at the same time, you glide, exactly like in Oblivion-People are ALWAYS looking at you. It's a little creepy.-People make random side-comments as you pass by. However, it's a little toned down from Oblivion, where they comment on all your abilities and such.-"Essentials" being rendered "unconscious"-When you press Z to move objects, it's held just like it is in Oblivion-Ragdoll physics There's a lot more but that's all that I can come up with off the top of my head. Don't get me wrong, I like it all. I think Bethesda took the best of Oblivion (freedom to interact w/ environment, lots of voice acting/dialogue, beautiful environment, etc.) and best of Fallout (plot, lore, humor) and mashed it together; I really like Fallout 3. Tagaziel
FR, I think you just insulted the original Fallouts by implying that Fo3 is somehow comparable to them in terms of quality.
billypnats
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------billypnats Posted Dec 12 2008, 01:34 AM I like oblivion better cus of the nude mods (HGEC FTW) If there was HGEC for fallout 3 I'de play it 24/7 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thats what inspires me to make the errotic radroach mod. make fun of those who dwell in nude mods, (such as myself) unfortunately I'm an old school modder for doom2/starcraft so the 3d catches me off guard. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------Werewolf334 Posted Dec 12 2008, 01:07 AM "With mods I believe oblivion currently beats Fallout 3, but now that GECK has been released, I suspect that fallout 3 will soon be in the lead in my own personal opinions."---------------------------------------------------------------------------------BAM! you said it right on the spot, oblivion wins even though its cartoony, but in time fallout mods will change that. I found that after level 6 I was starting to feel the game was getting boring, then I put the difficulty setting to very hard and now venturing out for 1/4 to 1/2 a day can be more fun than a quest. I prefere the survival adventure than trying to find civilians captured at german police HQ. lol texture radroaches so that there's nude pics on them xP, and I'll never shoot one again! Not even on my birthday!

My point was just that yes, you can compare things that are distinctly different, but I find it far less useful than comparing things which are pretty similar to begin with. Most of the other things also don't matter, as they are common to any number of games. Ever played any RPG ever? Experience, random encounters, dungeons, bartering, attributes, skills, weapon maintenance, saving, collectibles, and many more are in a vast majority of RPG games. Many of the other things you mentioned would be in any FPS game (swimming, LODs, exploring, etc.), and are also not unique to the game. These are not things useful to compare. Things useful to have in common when comparing games: themes, storylines, plot devices, characterizations, dialogue. If these things are similar, than a comparison can be meaningful, and not as pedantic.
jgarling
I loved Oblivion - still do. But like the change from Morrowind to Oblivion I think Bethesda made some sacrifices to make the game on the whole more playable and accessible for everyone. It's shorter, smaller, less complex and has a very definite end with a more intelligent leveling system. But look what we gained from them doing all that. The game is better optimized (better FPS), Looks better for the most part (a little redudant textures, but so did Oblivion), More voice actors, Every quest is just fantastic with lots of thought and multiple ways to complete. We got a more refined leveling system (no more stat padding), we got a more complex world that looks more "lived in" (I always felt that everything in Oblvion looked "placed") So I understand why Bethesda chose to do what they did. I may never see the epic RPG-ness of Morrowind ever again, but as long as Bethesda continues to produce quality games with quality content I will be happy to buy their games.... who knows they could be the next Blizzard. darksoul123
fallout 3 is a well made game,,,,,,but is not my sci-fi style,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,i didn't liked that game, i love FPS too, but....i prefer sci-fi style like BF2142 or final fantasy 7,,,,,,,not like Wall-E or wasteland stuff that still looks like modern era and not future. I just stopped playing it when i first met three dog, i talked to him and i started to feel, nostalgia about oblivion,,,,,,,,i have played oblivion for 3 years and i m still playing it........(maybe im the only guy who said something like this? ,XD)
