humankeg
For a while now I have been trying to play through a crackling/static noise. Its not there 100% of the time, closer to about 80% (and seems to be more and more frequent). This noise follows my character everywhere, and get louder the closer my view setting is to First Person. When fully zoomed away or when on horse back, I can barely hear this noise. I think the first time it happened was when I picked up a sword that had the chain lightning enchantment on it, not sure. I do not use that weapon anymore, and keep it in my home. I have dumped every item I have in my inventory on the ground hoping it would go away, but it didn't. I have no audio mods. I checked to see if there was a driver I needed to update, but there wasn't. On the inet I found recommendations to set the audio quality lower (from the control panel), to 16 bit 41600 or something. After I tried multiple settings, the sound remains. My speakers are fine (high quality, no sound card) and every other game I play and sound that comes from my computer seems healthy, so I am assuming it has to do with a patch that was DL'd aroudn the time the noise started. If anyone has any advice or recommendations to rid myself of this annoying noise, please let me know. Thanks in advance.
humankeg
Forgot one piece of information: One way I have found to temporarily get rid of the sound is to transform into a werewolf.
Georgiegril
It sounds to me like you have a spell effect stuck to you. Have you tried killing yourself? Also this threadmight help you, especially if you can figure out which spell is the problem.
humankeg
Not familiar with killing myself, if it means something other than just dying in game and loading the previous save :) Thanks for the link to the thread, ill take a look right now. humankeg
Doing a sex change also works temporarily, much like using beast form. As soon as I load a game I have to conduct another sex change otherwise the noise will be there.
humankeg
Posting again in this old thread, as I still have this problem. Its been several months since I have even played Skyrim (a big part of that is because of this sound issue). If anyone has any new updates or information, that would be swell. Georgiegril
Removing magic effects is in a sticky on the top of this board.
humankeg
Went through each active spell affect on my character while he was naked. Added then removed each one, and the noise persists. So far only things that fix the noise (and they only fix it temporarily) is a sex change (which messes up my skills) and changing to a werewolf.Removing magic effects is in a sticky on the top of this board. Georgiegril
If you start a new game, does the sound persist (not reinstalling, just clicking the new game option on the load screen)
humankeg
Negative. Starting a new game does not give me this sound. Its only in my current game save. Also, I did a full system restore "knowing" I would lose my saved games. Yet after re-installing Skyrim and just randomly going to "Load Games", I see all my saved games still there. I was VERY surprised that they were still there, as I was positive that the system restore would erase them. So I loaded up a recent one (I don't have any mods installed yet) and the static/crackling sound is still there. Still wearing me down and not making me want to play that particular save game anymore :*( Edited May 19, 2013 by humankeg
