jasmerd
Ok I am still quite new at this but not completely anymore. I have learned to be very careful on selecting mods and to pay attention to install directions and uninstall directions. I have also done quite a bit of blind ini config changes just by guessing values and some reading. uGridsToLoad Is there ANY danger at all in changing this variable with respect to your saved games??? I have learned to covet my clean saved games in this install thus far and I do not want to corrupt my saved games. I understand this will be more taxing on my system and I can potentially expect fps loss maybe and some CTDS just because my comp may not be able to handle it are my clean saved games in danger of playing with this variable?? how do you comment in ini files? tyvm!! PlanetSlayer
Changing Ugrids to anything above the default of 5 will break your game, unless your PC is absolutely top-of-the-notch, like being worth more than $5000 but even then it's still risky. Setting it below 5 is reasonable to my understanding. With regards to savgames though, I'm unsure of whether they'll be affected. Personally I think they are unneffected and it's mostly the game engine being affected, which could possibly cause problems. Although, to be fair you're best to wait for a second or even third opinion on this. Because I may not be the best in describing what Ugrids does or does not do. *Edit* Have you seen this thread: http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/657668-changing-ugridstoload-broke-the-game/ It may not be totally relevant however, there are some small snippets that may interesting for you. SineWaveDrox
If you increase above the default, and decide that your computer can't handle it to your satisfaction, and then decide to change it back, trying to load a save that was made with the higher setting will cause a crash. There are ways of fixing these saves to use the lower number again, but I don't think they are 100% effective, and there may be lasting effects (not entirely sure on this point). To be safe, I would recommend keeping your old saves and make note of which one was the last save made with the default setting, so if you need to drop the number back down, you will have that save to fall back on. Agreed. You can use Wrybash to rename your save to one that you'll remember that you changed the Ugrids in.
Georgiegril
I have to disagree about the level of computer needed--I have a 9800 GT 512 MB that I have configured to 7 ugrids, and have for practically a year now, with no problem. I do have a quad core i7 processor, which I think helps. However, it is very difficult to go backwards without starting a new game. I would suggest reading carefully the information about this setting on the Geforce Skyrim tweak guide, which explains the virtues and pitfalls of altering this value and what must be done to minimize problems.
