Slow deployments

Hi,

Vortex 1.2.11

- although this started happening a couple of releases ago, ie, a couple of "install newest vortex?" ago

Skyrim Special Edition

- If it matters, I'm still using 1.5.80/2.0.16

# mods 260

- Although some are just textures and preset definitions

Windows 10 Pro 64-bit

- most recent install ver: 1909 build: 18363.836

System: i7-9700K @ 3.6GHz, 64G ram video: 1060 w 6G vram

Problem (that is, IFF it is a problem, maybe it's just the way it is, idk)

- the deployment process has become slower than it was a couple of versions (Vortex) ago. It stalls about 1/10 of the way through and idles for "quite a while" (perhaps a minute and a half) before it continues, (before the progress bar starts moving again) and there's a significant delay also if FNIS needs to be run... this one can be upwards of several minutes (and maybe not have anything to do with Vortex, but again, I don't know)

the whole deployment used to be very fast. perhaps 30 seconds in total (minus any time to deal with FNIS) , but it now takes up to 5 minutes before it's done.

This could be normal or expected, due to some change in Vortex that's more rigorous or something, but I just don't know. Which indeed is why I'm here. It's something of a lark post because when I opened the forum section today I forgot to go to the SE version "home" first, so I ended up on the Baseline forum section and had a look around, found this section, and decided to follow up on my experience...I'm not unable to play I'm not unable to deploy, so it's no crisis, it's just that I noticed the slowdown in deploy operations and finally posted to ask about it.

This old boy is not computer illiterate, (been using computers since the early 1980s, programmed in several languages (C++ Basic, Fortran, ladder logic, etc) in support of electrical engineering projects, am engineer by training and professionally for the first 30 years of my career. spent 2009-to end of 2019 developing in Ruby/JS/etc for web dev)..

BUT... I AM a gamer illiterate. Skyrim was the first game I'd played since FFXI (stopped playing in 2008), And FFXI was the first game I'd installed since Comanche Attack Helicopter back in the 90s... to give you some perspective on my "credentials" as a gamer. I have none. Zip Zilch, etc. I'm a lobotomized dweeb in your world, so please be nice

thanks in advance,

Me

Does Vortex give you a count of how many files it's deploying? It's possible you recently added a mod with a tonne of loose files. This would definitely slow down deployment.

When I had 600+ mods installed deployment took about 2mins. If I had to rebuild FNIS you would add another 30-60 seconds to that.

It doesn't sound like there's anything wrong here. You may want to alter your settings so that Vortex doesn't auto-deploy and FNIS doesn't auto run. So you only need to deploy once when you've made all your changes.
