bcrankshaw
Hi AllI am about to start playing Skyrim for the first time and will be using several Mods as I do with every Bethesda game. I just wanted to know the main difference between using Steam or Nexus to download my Mods. Typical questions may be 1. Are the same Mods found on both places?2. Why would you use the Skyrim Nexus as opposed to Steam for Mod downloads Thanks :)
Sjogga
1: No, some mod authors don't upload their mods to both sites. 2: Skyrim Nexus gives you control of whether or not you want to update a mod, while steam updates automatically. Automatic updates can break your game.
LargeStyle
More answers to 2. are: - I've heard that once a mod is uploaded to Steam then Steam claim legal rights to your mod files which I personally don't think is right, AFAIK Nexus doesn't claim rights to files and rightfully leaves this ownership in the modders hands. - Adult mods are disallowed on Steam (boo). - Steam is extremely limited into the file structure of uploaded mod - I can't remember the exact Steam criteria but it basically means only relatively simple and small mods can be put onto Steam, again giving Nexus the advantage as there are no limits here! bcrankshaw
Thanks Guys, I always use Adult Mods so this reason alone is good enough for me to use Nexus :)
wifiman
quick question...i've been donig mods manually, but for trying out NMM do you have to run it before you run skyrim everytime you want your mods activated?
TheGreenLion
Erm well that's a bit of a derail but no, you just run it whenever you add new files. If you've installed stuff beforehand it will find the .esp/.esm files just make sure they are activated. It won't be able to uninstall files you've downloaded previously though unless you uninstall them manually and then use NMM's Add Mod From File function to reinstall them. And just for the record: Nexus - Yae! Steam - Nae!
Yogo
In my opinion Nexus is great, but it is harder for small mod to get recognition there due to massive competition. Plus adult mods more easily get endorsements there then normal mods of the same quality :)
