Uninstalled and cannot reinstall

Well friends, I came to the point as all of us do, when Skyrim decided to randomly start crashing after the logo scenario. After eliminating mods I came to the heavy conclusion that the fact that Steam wanted to convert my files to a different format had probably done it. Time to wipe and start again, different mod setup, after all my own mods and WIP I have backed up or can get from Nexus. And I have done this a number of times before after all.

Uninstalled totally, wiped registry with CCleaner and rebooted. Let Steam redownload...except...ummm...after two hours Steam had apparently finished downloading Skyrim, but was no Skyrim.exe, no Skyrim, Dawnguard or Hearthfire masters in the Data folder, no BSA's, no high res texture packs, nada. I am at 7% on verifying cache and still no exe or anything has appeared.

Has anyone got any idea at all what could be the problem? How do I go about making Steam allow me to install from the disk rather than downloading, and then update?

Am getting a bit worried!

Is there any kind of problem with the Steam servers that anyone knows of?

Not sure about Steam servers, I had no problem with them, just finished downloading a hefty amount of game files for Max Payne 3 (30 GB), and everything was fine and dandy.

Install from disc:

Also, make sure you deleted/backed up your .ini files and saves in your \My Games\Skyrim folder.

Then, if and when the installation and update process is complete, back up your entire game to another drive (Library - Skyrim (right click) - Properties - Local file (tab) - Back up game files...).

As to Hearthfire and Dawnguard, try searching for them in your X:\User folder as tortured Tomato suggested.

Well I am not sure what was happening with the first download, as it took as long as a proper download should but gave me NO stuff. But on verifying game cache, off it went for a couple of hours and this time I did get the files. Running nicely with a selection of mods. Maybe my local Steam server was having a hissy fit, hehe!
