Who calls the Dark Brotherhood on the Dragonborn?

I just met one in my new game at level 5. At that point the only things I had done was escaping from Helgen and getting the Dragonstone out of Bleak Falls Barrow. Hadn't stolen anything, hadn't killed anyone other than those that attack you during the quests, a giant (well I hit it twice, the Companions killed it), and a pair of necromancers that attacked me heading to the barrow. Maven wouldn't be interested in some scrub in Whiterun enough to send the DB after him/her.

I figured it was Alduin, as he likely sensed who you were at Helgen. We have the dragon blood in us?

Now how could he do this? Easy, he has a servant in secret doing his bidding, OR ELSE! ;)

I read the arguments:

Mavin?

No - as I have not even been to Riften, let alone done anything to ' tick her off '.

The " other side " of the choice you made on the civil war? I have not taken sides yet.

Not even really done anything yet, 2/b honest when the 1st " contract " was met with force.

I got to thinking about this whole Dark Brotherhood thing and something made me think a bit when I think it may have hit me. It starts in the beginning. It's not Alduin, why would the World-Eater need the DB? He could do it himself. Its not Maven either, too late in the game.

It depends on who you go with in the beginning, Ralof the Stormcloak or Hallvar the Imperial. That's the deciding factor because remember when both were fighting and arguing about who was going to take you away from all that mess? That's your key right there where it all starts.

I don't see Hadvar doing this, 2/b honest - nor Ralof. Reason, they do not really know which side you've taken. You just went with " A ", and plus there is no real record of you yet in the game, with either Stormcloaks or Imperials.

Point: They are both neutral when you meet them, early on in the game. They are both friends, as you can buy - sell and chat with any and all of them ... until you make take the PLEDGE OF OATH. Then you become an enemy of the other.

FOR THE FUN OF IT! It's just a game. ;)

Alduin is still my choice.

You said he could have killed me / you early on.

How so?

See, there was so much going on in Helgen and IF he could kill you, why didn't he do it at Kynesgrove and one of the other sites of resurrection?

He acknowledges that we are there, and KNOWS who we are .....

There could be the thought, that since he knows who we are, he understands from past experiences, it's best not to " go there ". The 3 that teaches Dragonrend. Burned once, shy twice, sort of thing?

It is a fun mystery.

Just like the " LETTER FROM A FRIEND ", that leads you to Dragon Walls.

I still think, it's from a Psijic Monk, as " we've been watching you ". But again, it's just my thought.

If the person knew the player was dragonborn, then perhaps someone who thinks the player is a fake? Or perhaps they want to proclaim themself dragonborn?

The Arbitrary AI Package Man sent them.

I made a number of characters who don't head straight to Riverwood after escaping Helgen and just go about killing bandits, finding Word Walls, or clearing out dungeons, but every single time I get Dark Brotherhood assassins sent after me after some point. So either it's a level-triggered event or some bandit/dragon priest/vampire/bear took exception to me murdering them (because sometimes I just love sneak attacking people) and posthumously took a contract out on me.

Or maybe it's the same weirdo who wastes time and money to contract the DB to assassinate insane beggars, isolated lumberjacks, and friendly meat vendors http://forums.nexusmods.com/public/style_emoticons/dark/rolleyes.gif

Haha made my day!

If you use "Timing is Everything", you find out it is a triggered event that is level-based. You hit a certain level, and they are sent. Also, if you beat up so many people, or kill so many people, a DB Assassin is sent after you.

Personally, since I always go back and get the juniper mead in helgen after escaping, I think its Vilod.

Yeah, that's using OOC knowledge though. We're trying to come up with who send them after you while staying within the confines of the game.

We are all "legends in our own minds" ....

Tomorrow, I think your missing the point. It's not the guys like Hadvar or Ralof that would do it, it's the direction you take that kicks it into gear. If you go for one side, the other side will kick it in, but not the guys you were with in the beginning. It's how it plays out, is how it gets kicked into play. But, if you don't go for either side, it still happens the same. Now here is what I found interesting. If you were to play further into the game and decided to end the DB, down the road you actually get attacked by DB assassins. I know, I tried that a couple times.

Now the thought of a Psyjiic monk I'm not too sure about. How could they be sending the DB after the player? Mmm, food for thought. Now I can see the Psyjiic monk as the "letter from a friend" kind of thing, due to the fact that you meet them while in Saarthal. That's why I love Skyrim, so many different possibilities, so many ways to end the game....If you end the game. I'm still playing a chacter from beginning of 2014?

Dang that's been a while.

I think it is Delphine she never likes you at any point in the game nor does she want to lose the "leader" role she so covets. She is arrogant against the Dragonborn at every turn.. never really wanting to work with you it is her way or no way. She has manipulated people to do her bidding and even states she been doing this a long time when you chose any options other than her choice.

though my different play-throughs I found assassins early on long before having any dealings with really anybody never been to the Rift nor been to any Meadery so I rule out Maven. Have not chose any side in the war never dealt with the companions. In fact my current play through I have only been to 3 holds Whiterun, Iverstead, and Falkreath level 10 and met an assassin.

I rule out Alduin as he never really viewed you as a threat hence, not attacking you at Kynesgrove even if you attack him there he wont attack you as it was not the Dragonborn who sent him "away" no spoiler.

The only person who has so much to loose that early in the game is none other than Delphine.
