Fallout 4 crashes during start-up and gameplay after Vortex update

Hi

 

I am using Vortex version 1.2.14 with a modded Fallout 4. I am using Windows 10, x64, and I have 16gb of RAM. I am using 81 mods. I never get an error message.

My Fallout 4 has been rock-solid for a long time – over 6 months. I was using the previous version of Vortex but when I updated to 1.12.14 a week ago the game either will not start or crashes within a few seconds of game play. I haven’t added any other mods prior to Vortex update. It crashes most often when using fast-travel or opening a door into a new location.

I use Bitdefender as anti-virus which I've had no previous problems with. All Fallout 4 and Vortex related programs are whitelisted.

I've re-installed Fallout 4, all the mods, F4SE and Vortex from scratch. Everything is the latest version. The game still crashes during loading or within seconds of playing as above.

 

Any help appreciated.

It's very unlikely your problem is caused by Vortex. Something you can try is to close Vortex when you're done modding and run F4SE from the shortcut in the game folder.

 

If it works better without Vortex running in the background it may just be a memory thing on your PC (Vortex uses about 300mb of RAM when idle).

Thanks Mike, I'll give it a go. I gave up trying to run the game from Vortex so now I run it with f4se_loader.exe. Cheers
