nobadeeftw
Ever since Oblivion there was something that always bothered me about the combat in TES. It became more apparent in Skyrim; since your character has the ability to disengage from combat with certain NPCs, like guards simply by sheathing your weapon. What bothered me was, when you beat an enemy NPC into submission, often they will plea for mercy while curled up on the ground. You don't really get the option to be merciful; because, after a few seconds they just stand right back up and try to kill you again. What if you sheathed your weapon while the target was in their submissive form on the ground; then after they recovered, they would disengage from combat and either run or fade away? It would make role-playing a good guy seem far more believable, since you wouldn't be forced to execute everyone on the spot. Also, it would make killing that one NPC who really did something nasty, seem far more deserving of it, than some common bandits or mercenaries. Skyrim's culture revolves around Honor; it wouldn't be very honorable to kill a wounded person, that was begging you to let them live.
