How much ram do you have now? What processor?

The 6790 is no slouch...... it should actually do what you want......

AMD Phenom II X4 980 Black Edition Deneb 3.7GHz Socket AM3 right now with 8gb of ddr3 ram... or do i need to do more ram instead? cuz thats no prob there i can throw another 8gb at it for 16 which i was gonna do anyways when i bought the new card. right now when i run the crazy enb setting in 1920x1080 its pretty choppy when i ran vanilla it ran like a dream but thats cuz i think im boggin it down with all the texture mods and enb settings maxed out right now... need the eye candy man!!

You don't need more ram, though it couldn't hurt to get fancycache.

ENB is a performance hogger, just so you know.

The 6790 is basically a rubbish 6850.

1080p @ ENB crazy settings @ Ultra? Eh. 7850 at least.

Though, wait a few months. The AMD 8xxx series will be coming out soon, and prices will drop for the current 7xxx series.

lookin at a 7870 right now for about 200 bux so that should work ok then huh? i mean i usually run it at HQ but the ABILITY to run ultra would be nice very nice.. but not 1000% needed

I would have looked at a faster hard drive for my money.

Hard Disk has to fetch your textures for your GPU.

As far as Ram Memory goes, I would have checked the fetch speeds for my ram and then looked for gaming ram, but not as high priority.

You might have been able to put a 2nd Vram chip in but I would'nt know off the top of my head I'm running Nvidea.

I would have checked my Driver, I noticed a significant boost in performance when I got Dawnguard and a new driver for my Nvidea card likely the driver was optimized for Dawnguard versions of Skyrim.

-Also I did a fresh install

-Updated all of my Mods to latest versions

-Did a full defrag

-Upgraded my textures from 1024 to 2048 and still had 45+ FPS where as before I had 45 FPS with like 1024 textures

Trouble most people have is they don't look at the whole of their computer.

-Think about Driver's they're free Nvidea is always posting better drivers with better performance ratings.

-Think about the Hard disk like I said it fetches your textures and also handles papyrus scripts

-Think about RAM when you have 8 G or less

-Skyrim can use 4 GB to operate the Game Engine which is seperate from Papyrus.

-Windows weither you like it or not uses up your RAM behind the scenes like 1/3 of your Ram

-Some comp set ups only have 2 or 4 Gigs of Ram this is a problem with performance gaming. I've seen a lot of nice specs on a system boasting nice GPU's that fall short here.

-Defragging is pretty important when your modding textures into your game, the 2048 and 4096 get HUGE

-The Defraggind is like telling the Librain at a library to get off his butt and go put those books into the proper order instead of just throwing them in about the right area of the library.

-Texture Optimizer programs are a must!

-Most fan made textures are packaged incorrectly for the game, a good optimizer will compress them properly and place in missing mip maps, alpha channel, and put them in the proper faster DXT compressions as well as decreaseing the file size making the Hard Disks job that much easier.

Proper hand cleaning of your Skyrim Folder is also a choir but entirely a good idea.

-Most mods come with extras that don't get used and cause Folder Bloat that your computer has to sift through.

-You'll see a lot of NMM users that have tons of extras that never get used in game.

-Some programs like TES5Edit store a lot of ESPbackups right into your Skyrim folder every time you make changes. More Bloat!

No matter how fast your computer is you can't escape bad files. Use Tes5Edit to clean those files

-Even update.esm needs to get cleaned

-DawnGuard especailly needs cleaning

-A lot of fan mods have dirty edits that need cleaning

-All those dirty changes can lead to crashing

-expect better performance with clean mods

That was a bad move. The HD 8000 series will be coming out very soon. Could have saved your self a handsome penny if you waited a bit.

not really since it was my money and its all right since i would have had to wait a bit and im not a big fan of waiting but in regards to the awesome post above...i think i will purchase a ssd next week would you reccomend a straight solid state or a hybrid drive?

Trooper don't worry about your hardware. Someone will always say wait , you'd save more $$. Just wait 3 more years, that 7000 series card will be $50. How long do you want to wait to get the performance you desire.

I purchase and assemble hardware systems for trade shows. I always purchase top of the line components for a 3-day to a 2-week show. These components are often not needed and sometimes way over kill. For the extra $$ I am spending at the time, I am guaranteed my systems will not fail, will outperform the demands and not leave me teary eyed in front of a board of directors with a thousand I'm sorry's that amount to nothing. Even my sad green eyes won't sway financial backers when a multi-million dollar display fails because I didn't want to spend the extra $75 on a component. Buy what you can up to the limit of your funds when you do want buy something. If you are ready to purchase new hardware, go for your reasonable limits.

People who wait (for the next generation), are always behind a curve. Even if they purchase second or third generation hardware. Waiting puts that at third and fourth generation when they do. Maybe do not purchase first run gear, but get the maximum purchase you can at the time. Of course do your "homework" on any item you do decide.
