tskasa1
So, I've modded Oblivion quite a bit, and when I try to run it, it runs EXTREMELY slowly. As in ~20~30 FPS on average (maxing at around like 35 FPS when looking at something that would normally net me 60 FPS prior to modding). Before (as in before I started modding) I could easily average out about ~40~60 FPS depending on my location. Oddly enough, I haven't even included any massive retexture packs like QTP3's texture pack yet, or the flora retexturing mods, so I'm shocked by the massive FPS drop. amerem
its proably all the textures eating your VRAM lol you could try killing some system proccesses by using game booster and maybe try this out? http://oblivion.nexu....com/mods/23208 or you could set it to use only 2 cores instead of 4 also try the "tlb" command in the command console. It may also be that Oblivion is thinking your graphics card is something else lol

Edited January 27, 2013 by amerem
tskasa1
But eating TWO gigs of VRAM? Not to mention that all of my textures so far are weapons, arrow, and food. I use the Alternative Start By Ship mod, so I start off in a port during day time, meaning that half of that stuff isn't going to show up (arrows, night stuff, horses, food), and there's at most a handful of guards that would be affected by the armor and weapon retexes. Hence I don't see how its the retexture things. I was also using OBGE Liquid Water at one point, but I tried disabling it and saw a negligible gain. I'm already running Stutter Remover, and Project Optimization. Also, setting it to two cores? I thought Oblivion only supported up to 2 cores. Furthermore, why would setting it to two cores help? Wouldn't that make things worse by decreasing my processor's productivity? And what does the "tlb" command do? Lanceor
Whether the item is a coin or a mountain, the texture takes up the same amount of VRAM, assuming the same sized texture of course. One way you can check is to run NVidia Inspector while gaming and view the VRAM usage. Also, with that many mods, I'd be very surprised if it didn't run slow. tskasa1
According to Afterburner my memory usage maxes out at 530 MB. Also, yes, I wouldn't be surprised by some slowdown, but not THIS massive of a slowdown. Before I could run the game and never go below 38 FPS even in the cities, on average the game would run around 60 FPS, but it RARELY dropped below 40. Now even when I look directly to the woods and away from anything, which nets the highest FPS, I struggle to get ~30~32 FPS. On the flip side, I've gone as low as about ~16 FPS. So... And yes, I do consider 20 FPS to be extremely slow, especially when you consider that this is in an area with relatively low NPC count, or hell, low on pretty much anything that would tax my system very much. Striker879
Quote So, I've modded Oblivion quite a bit, and when I try to run it, it runs EXTREMELY slowly.May I inquire how you added these mods? By that I mean did you add almost all of them in one fell swoop or did you add them one at a time (except where required by mod dependencies) and then test thoroughly between installs. It's a trivial matter to ID problems with the one at a time method.

I added via either WryeBash or OBMM. A note though, save for a relative handful of mods on the list, I've run most of these mods in the past without such a massive reduction to FPS. Striker879
It'll only take one (or possible a few in combination). Do you have a 'most recently added' list? That's where I'd start. - Edit - Another thing that comes to mind ... is this a game with lots of hours? Could be the A-Bomb rearing it's ugly head. tskasa1
No, I don't, but I guess I can start checking... It shouldn't be the texture packs though, right? Because textures are mainly VRAM intensive and since I'm only using ~530 MB of VRAM out of 2GB, I should have plenty of headroom. And no, it's a brand new game.
