mortimermcmirestinks
If this is a bad place to ask this, please link me a better place. If I've left out any information, please request it.I want to replace the Stormcloak helmet with a baseball cap (it's complicated).I have, in Autodesk Maya 2018, completely modeled, textured, and UV-wrapped my baseball cap, and ensured that it's approximately the same size and position as a vanilla Stormcloak helmet. It's a work of beauty and art that shall outlast the stars themselves, by which I mean it looks kinda crappy but it's good enough for my personal use for giggles.I've got Creation Kit, in which I have made three mods already:Two of them are very basic NPC mods. One of the NPCs has about five lines of custom dialogue, wears vanilla clothing, and lives in a vanilla location (Dragonsreach). The other is unusedThe other one is a custom book mod, which adds a custom note and then puts fifty of those notes in a barrel in Dragonsreach.I have, currently downloaded, the following programs:Autodesk Maya 2018, in which I modeled and UV'd the hat, and the OBJExporter and .NIF Plugin.Adobe Photoshop CC 2020, in which I made the texture .PNG I'm using.the Skyrim Creation Kit.A .BAE extractor for extracting vanilla models and textures.NifSkope, which I am hopelessly lost in, due to the fact that all the tutorials I've found are either about something else or assume the reader is already familiar with NifSkope.I've read a number of different tutorials (including all the relevant surviving pinned ones), and none of them contain all of the information I need. Over the past ~48 hours I've had the CK crash on me a number of times that my scientists tell me is "logistically impossible", I've seen more error messages than there are atoms in my computer, and I have aged fourteen years. My children are starving and the zombies have already almost broken down my front door. Death is either imminent or desirable, I haven't decided yet.Help?Step-by-step instructions or links to step-by-step instructions are appreciated. Also, just FYI, if you're coming back to check this post in, like, 2027, and if there's no solution in the replies, I probably won't check here often in seven years, but feel free to PM me on reddit! I might've found the solution if I'm still alive. I'm /u/mortimermcmirestinks. Edited August 6, 2020 by mortimermcmirestinks
HeyYou
Have you been able to convert it to a .nif format, with textures intact?
mortimermcmirestinks
Have you been able to convert it to a .nif format, with textures intact?I'm not sure. That's one of many problems, is that I don't know how to test that. edit: for clarification, I have tried converting it to a .nif, via several tutorials, but it either doesn't work or I did something else incorrectly. Dragoon23
what format is it? If it's an obj, you can try importing it into BodySlide and Outfit Studio, export it as a nif, and go from there. You'll have to add the texture paths back and weight paint it again, but the UV mapping should still be saved after conversion.
mortimermcmirestinks
Thank you for replying! I asked this same question over on Reddit and someone over there helped me figure it out. Yeah, we eventually went through Outfit Studio for part of it. It works now! Thank you!
