docrobperry
Hi all Today I installed SkyUI. Or I tried to - I quickly discovered I had to download SKSE first, and that I also had to download a utility to unzip the SKSE folder. I think I followed all of the instructions, but I'm getting an error message telling me that this version of SKSE isn't compatible with the latest Skyrim update from Steam. SkyUI is still working (sort of) - the UI itself appears, but the button prompts at the bottom say ???? and I have $ in front of some headings. Do I need to wait for a SKSE update, or have I done something wrong here? Thanks Rob
Rabbit1251
Log on to Steam and tell it to Verify your Game Cache and that should update your game to the latest version as well. Rabbit
bben46
SKSE is not a mod and does not install like a mod - It installs in the game folder - where the TesV.exe file is located. (TesV is the Skyrim game) While mods install in the data folder. Always get SKSE from the official site where the latest version is FREE for anyone to download. http://skse.silverlock.org/ The instructions are packed inside the zip file. Up until recently anyone who used mods had to know what a compressed file was and how to unzip or they couldn't use mods. Nexus Mod Manager made mods easy and we are seeing a huge influx or users who have never used a zip file and who don't know anything about file structure (where files go) The unzip program I use is 7-zip, it is absolutely FREE and will handle every zipped format you will find on the Nexus - including rar, winzip, peazip and many others. It is also available for download from the Nexus - here: http://oblivion.nexu....com/mods/15579 it is a self unzipping program, Download it somewhere you can find it easily and click on it, it will unzip itself and install - then anytime you click on a zipped file it will open for you to use it. Then, download the SKSE zipped file to a place you can easily find it (I have a created a folder just for downloading files into - named Downloads) click on it and the zip program should open it and ask what you want to do. The default is to unzip in the same folder. If you do this you will see all of the files - now you can copy the ones you need to the proper place according to the SKSE instructions. Here are the installation instructions extracted from the zipped instructions.[ Installation ] 1. Copy the .dll and .exe files to your Skyrim directory. This is usually in your Program Files folder under Steam\SteamApps\common\skyrim\. If you see files named TESV and SkyrimLauncher, this is the correct folder. Do not copy these files to the Data folder as with a normal mod. The "src" folder is only useful for programmers, most users can ignore it. 2. Copy the .pex files in Data\Scripts\ into the Data\Scripts\ folder of your installation. The .pex files are needed by all users of SKSE. 3. Copy the .psc files in Data\Scripts\Source\ into the Data\Scripts\Source\ folder of your installation. The .psc files are only needed if you have the CreationKit installed and intend to create or compile Papyrus scripts. 4. Launch the game via running skse_loader.exe. Steam must be running before launching Skyrim. If you use a desktop shortcut to launch Skyrim normally, just update the shortcut to point to skse_loader.exe instead of TESV.exe or SkyrimLauncher.exe. Hope this clears things up for you.
docrobperry
Thanks for the help! The problem was even sillier than I thought - I had installed everything correctly, but I hadn't used the skse_loader to launch Skyrim (having been used to doing it via Steam). Once I used that, it worked :)
Warskin
I actually started installing mods for the first time today.I don't really know what I'm doing, but I know that I got the latest versions of SKSE and SkyUI.SkyUI shows as activated in NMM, and I do lauch Skyrim with the skse_loader.exe. The thing is, once I am in the game, I don't see anything different. There is no new menu somewhere (MCM), my UI doesn't look any different and I have no idea what to do.Any help would be appreciated. And yes, I am a Noob, so it's totally possible I didn't do something obvious. I apologize in advance. Cheers!

Being a noob is not a problem, we were always noobs at something, in some point of our lives, so no need to apologize... personally the only thing I dislike when ppl ask for help is when they go in caps and increase the font size and use it in red saying "HELP PLZ! IT DOESN'T WORK!" without providing any detailed info. It seems to me that skse is not loading at all in our game. To check if SKSE is loaded in game, press ESC and on the bottom left you should ave both game version and skse version displayed. If no SKSE version is listed, then its not loaded... The only thing I can imagine (besides a bad SKSE installation) is that something in your system may be blocking SKSE from loading... either an AV, that lame windows UAC... whatever. I would check skse_loader.exe properties, and maybe enable the run as administrator option.

Murlaco
I might be missing something, but whenever I find a post about the problem I'm having about "Update to latest version", it always gets lead off in some random direction. So, I installed everything correctly I think. I went into the game, and checked my version. It's the right one for my SKSE, but it keeps telling me to update to latest version. Can someone explain what I can do to fix this, without going over my head?
