I love this idea! Also I have found a mod which possibly may help with your project.

It is the forge: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/9958 It has it's own armour, but you can add a recipe for that.

I really hope this idea is picked up by some modder, because I really want to see this in-game!

I gotta say, good idea but there are quite a few mods out there like this. Well maybe not in this depth but sort of. I am working on one myself. But anyway, you should definetly have a but load of new stuff in the mod such as weapons, creatures, textures etc. Maybe insert a few new mechanics aswell. I am not sure but this kind of requires a LOT of work and determination. I have my mod since january and i must say it has been quite frustrating and annoying at times. I wish you guys best of luck in this development and hope you get to finish this.

ive made the idea list, also added some of my ideas, here it is:

 

-quest/questline introducing the following scenarios:
-land of fire(pretty much a hell-like territory)
-falmer/chaurus hive(GIAGANTIC dungeon crawling with falmer and chaurus[in the quest it would be the only place with minerable corestone, mixing the idea of big mineral complex])
-intact dwemer city(with NPCs, wok just like a normal city, but underground)
-secondary quest:free the enslaved falmer(the dwemer will be enslaved and the city will belong to the falmer[they become friandly])
-megaelevator that leads the player back to skyrim(the player is still able to come to the dwemer/falmer city trough the same elevator)
-coreforge(ultimate forge)
-corestone weapons and armor(better than daedric armor and dragonbone weapons)
-sthalrim pickaxe(required to mine corestone, quest item)
-coremaster(the protector of the coreforge, half lurker, half dwemer centurion)
-new NPCs(some of them are ideas of mine introduced in the midle of the quest wich one has its own history, but i am working on that part)
-the dragomunculi(not his actual name), a mechanical being with the look of a dragonpriest(he is not a dragonpriest), he has the corestone mask(the original corestone set didnt had a helmet, so the mask can be considered the helmet part of the entire corestone gear)
-the librarian(not the actual name), the only man(or mer) of all tamriel who knows literally everything about the dwemer(you need him to start the quest).
-new items
-stalhrim pickaxe
-the ancient corearmor(also quest item), an ancient armor, so powerfull that the dwemer entered in civil war for it(it doesnt remind you somenthing, atherium?), its equipable, but doesnt have any armor rating OR enchantment.
-the corestone armor, the best f*cking armor of all, has special fire protection, but still enchantable
-the ebony diamond, a rare and powerful jewel that grant the user special fire protection, you need it to fix the ancient corearmor(more details below, on story ideas), the coremaster use it.
-story ideas(pieces of story made by me)
-instead of forging the corestone armor, you just fix it, the quest item "ancient corearmor" is the broken corestone armor,the dwemer, after the civil war for the corearmor, decided to lock down the forge and the armor. they created a dragomunculi to protect the chamber with the pieces of the ancient corearmor, and they created the coremaster to protect the forge, the intact city its just an outpost to protect both chambers from anyone trying to breakout and get the whole power to itself.
-miscellaneous
-after the end of the quest, there is a marriable dwemer chick down there in the city, also, you can buy a house in the same city, also, the snow elf and dwemer race are unlocked if the player decide to make a new character(if you choose the snow elf race you MUST do the secondary quest to free the falmer in the dwemer city, if you choose the dwemer race you cant do the quest to free the falmer in the dwemer city.)
one last thing, and its personal, the secondary quest to free the falmer MUST be called "DJANGO:FALMER EDITION"
