Syntax1985
Ive seen alot of people claiming they know the fallout world is from the 1950's. wrong. ive seen many, many people thinking fallout is based of an after effect from WW2, wrong lol. Fact: the great war, not ww1, not ww2, not even ww3, fallout was created by the Great war, which happened in just one day following the resource wars, which was in fact, in October, 2077. Fallout seems if anything to based from a huge surge in interest in the 1950's of what life would be like in the future. The most famous of which was an article in a Science magazine titled Miracles You’ll See In The Next Fifty Years!!!! This site pretty much shows all theyre ideas and youll notice alot being used in Fallout, and also includes the article i mentioned above. it makes good reading. Linky! Below is one of my favourites, although it seems a bit stupid and dangerous, its actually surprising it never came into production, as in theory it could work wonders for the travel industry! lol.http://blog.modernmechanix.com/mags/qf/c/ModernMechanix/5-1932/xlg_running_train_pickup.jpg And lastly, a 1950s documentary on a house wife with robots, ( notice how stupid they make her look lol ) Living with a robot Sometimes you have to think, "Where's my flying car? Where's my robot to help me out? Where's my self cleaning house?" lol. Please share any 1950's era "World of tomorrow" vids or aticles you know of :D
Khet
Not to sound rude or anything but the point of this post is...? I mean, I'm just saying that i've never seen anyone say that the Great War happened in the 1950's only that the game is based off of 1950's ideals. Unless I'm missing something. Either way, interesting read.

Either way, interesting read. ive seen it quite often to be honest, pretty much in 80% of the "lore friendly" comments. But that aside i was just sharing some info i found which makes pretty good reading if your interested in the Fo3 theme of things.
Khet
Ah, guess I haven't been paying attention. Still you're right though, interesting read. Too bad the train transfer thing never really picked up.
mikekearn
The Fallout world IS based on the 1950s. That is when the Fallout history diverged from our own, and created a separate universe. The Great War and the actual fallout of it didn't happen then, but the ideals and concepts that ran rampant through the 1950s are what shaped the Fallout universe. You can read more about it here. As a side note, the train transfer ideal is still around. There's just no cheap way to get it into production, so it's just speculation.
Khet
I think what he's saying is that people are saying the Great War happened in 1950s and not ~2000
mikekearn
I am aware that's what he meant, but it isn't what he said. Mistakenly saying that the Fallout world isn't based in the 50s era is just going to mislead others further. The Great War didn't happen until later, but it's still the 50s era mentality.
