Is Fallout 3 easier than Oblivion?

I was wondering, what do YOU people think about this?

I mean, in Oblivion, there are hundreds of spells that can make your enemies-DEAD MEAT

But I think Fallout 3 is a bit more difficult-that's the reason why I love it so much...The great thing is, you can really BLOW up your enemies...

What a bloody mess.... :whistling:

;D

I agree...actually, it's sad that main quest ends so fast...and then, there's nothing for me to do... :wallbash:

No. In Oblivion, even though the enemies scale to your level, once you're at Lv. 50, spells and projectile attacks can destroy enemies fairly quickly (Not to mention self-enchanted armor and weapons). In Fallout 3, at the earlier levels you're going to have to use everything you have to survive.

Granted, VATS is very useful, but if there isn't enough AP left to use it, you're going to have to do some shooting, and some enemies in FO3 (Deathclaws and Yao Guai, to be specific) are very quick. Compare the Daedroth to the Deathclaw, for example. The Deathclaw is incredibly fast, has immense range, and deals monstrous damage. The Daedroth? Meh. Not to mention that enemies in Fallout 3 usually have projectile attacks, unlike in Oblivion, where enemies primarily use melee attacks.

I'd say fallout 3 much easier and more fun with mods. Too bad there isnt a fast traveling thing in fallout ike the horses in oblivion. fallout 3 the 1st time I got moira's quest and went to the super duper mart I got shocked like hell but after I killed them barely alive and took they're assault rifles, I was quite OK. Stimpaks also do the job

This I have to agree with as a longtime Oblivion player. Neither one of these is 'extremely hard' at the beginning and both get a lot easier over time when you level up, however Oblivion did have it's sicknesses and for a caster those could prove, extremely, deadly. Actually, if you played as a caster and NEVER used the 'easy' difficulty level(I played at 'average and started raising it up from there, currently playing at hardest, which honestly saying is twice as hard than anything in FO3. Still speaking of Vanilla.) you'd notice how insanely underpowered mages are and people are still trying to find a good magicka overhaul.(Willpower is a good example of a failed stat bonus formula, could go in-depth of where Beth went wrong, with mages in general, but this is not the topic for that.)

Now; Oblivion has the advantage of a fairly old modding community. thus there are tons of high quality mods that still aren't even possible for FO3 due to lack of tools etc. The main thing here is the game balance; There are plenty of major overhauls in Oblivion(MMM, OOO, CUO, WarCry etc.) and I believe only one for FO3(ZBFO?) which aim to correct the imbalances the original game had in the eyes of the community/modders. Oblivion can be made insanely hard and truthfully 100% unplayable by difficulty provided in some mods, if your character is still starting up, regardless of skills. Fallout 3 still lacks several of the needed overhaul aspects, although it IS getting there, but when comparing vanilla FO3 and vanilla Oblivion, Oblivion will take the cake of being harder.

Just to make one thing perfectly clear; I do NOT have any experience with the console versions of the games as I own both only on PC and I intend for it to stay that way.

@Monolithic, I'm not sure if you're playing Oblivion on PC or console, but with several mods I've managed to keep my play still interesting and challenging at level 96.(Few overhauls, companions and playing on absolutely hardest setting, without the use of 100% chameleon.) If you're playing on 360/PS3, I advice you to get Oblivion for PC and try the community made mods as I know you'll get sucked in for months.(Shouldn't cost much anymore either.)

I have both FO3 & Oblivion for the PC. And yes, I do use mods; many, in fact. But after all, I based my post on vanilla features & difficulty, excluding features implemented by mods.
