So I made some very minor changes to FemaleBody_d.dds and saved it as DXT1 ARGB 1bit alpha which gave me the same file size as before.

but the problem is the new texture turned black when loaded in game.

Do i need to change the normal and specular files as well?

Are there any good guides on how to edit skin textures?

This is a basic tutorial about retexturing:

I don't think that "skin textures" are any different to other textures ...

You don't need to edit the normal and spec. textures if you don't want to ...

Yes I used PaintNET for about 5 years before I, ahem, "aquired" photoshop.

PaintNET is awsome!

Easier to use then GIMP (for me), and it supports DDS files.

So, what more could somebody want?

I only use PS now because I have it and it is "the standard tool" for graphic stuff, so I thought I might as well learn it ...

(I mainly got the whole Adobe - Package for the "Adobe Animate" software, to mess around with the "flash - UI - stuff" for Fallout 4)

That's strange because that's pretty much what I did when I saved the _d.dds file and yet it showed up all black in game and bodyslide

Is PaintNet as powerful and easy to use as PS?

All i want to do is use the Lasso tool and select the part of the texture and then change the brightness

I don't know .....

I haven't done much "advanced stuff" with PS yet, just starting to learn the basics ...

(PS is easy to use? Well, if you say so ... I am still trying to get used to it. Maybe after using it for a few more months I'll get "used to it" ...)

sry

I've been using PS since around 2008 because of photography. I do admit that the learning curve for PS is quite steep.

Also the FemaleBody_d.dds file i've been trying to edit is from this mod:

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/20218

still weird that the nvidia plugin would mess up the texture file after saving since it has worked before when I changed a texture file for an outfit mod

When I open the file I used "Load Using Default Sizes" option with "Load MIP maps" option unchecked.

saved it as DXT1 ARGB 1bit alpha (which i assume is the same as the recommended setting in the tutorial)

Hmmm ... don't know what could be wrong ....

I personally use the "intel texture works" - plugin for PS.

(I wanted to get the NVIDIA one, but you have to log in or register on their site to download it, and I don't support that stuff ...)

So, if this is a issue with the plugin that you use, I can't help you ....

Maybe somebody else knows about this, somebody who actually uses the NVIDIA plugin.
