voidgenesis
So here I am, having just played farcry 3 through and I was amazed at the gameplay and the strength of the story and characters, and I'm halfway through sleeping dogs, and likewise finding so many aspects where I find myself thinking "this is so much better than skyrim". I even did a recent quick playthrough on skyrim where everyone was non-essential (thanks mods) and it was such a relief to stab everyone in the back, and it made me realise how little I liked the characters in the game. And yet.....I still find myself wanting to go back, try out another mod, try out the DLCs (haven't tried any of them yet). So the question is why? What is it about skyrim that makes it so replayable? Am I just lazy and enjoy playing it because I don't have to think very hard or struggle with unfamiliar controls? Curious to see if other people are in the same boat....... imperistan
For me, this problem stems from the total lack of anything like Skyrim or any other ES game (or F3). If the market were saturated (or just plainly had more than the one) with more open-world games with the interactivity of an Elder Scrolls game I doubt either you or me would have this problem. (Unless, naturally, Skyrim ended up being the best out of the pile, but that's worst case scenario)
RaktoastTheSandwichTopper
I've gone through skyrim more times then i'd like to admit everytime with a new build, with different self imposed restrictions, getting a new experience and i've actually redone questlines because i enjoyed them enough (the thieves guild)
Bloodinfested
Its all about you creating your own adventure you do want you want to do witch is a very powerful concept most rpgs set you on rails. I love the freedom in the game and mod wise if you have some issue with the game most likely someone made a mod that tailors to what you want. The mod community is amazing for TES witch greatly can add to the replay value itself...I'm always playing some mmo and trying out various single player games but I'm always playing a TES game. You talk about playing skyrim I'll still play Morrowind witch is my favorite then oblivion and skyrim. bobsaysftw
I'm dealing with the same thing! No matter what game I get into, I always return to Skyrim and have a great time. I've recently got back into Oblivion and I'm having a fun time there too.
WatchMeGoing
To me the idea of playing Skyrim is often much more fun than actually playing it. I'll come up with some new character, new ways to play through, doing the quests in a new order, etc. In my head this always gives me a great prospect of playing the game, but then I actually start playing and realize that it doesn't really matter because everything is the same as the last 50 times I played it. Still, the prospect of a "new" way of playing the game is often enough to make me come back to it. And like imperistan said, there aren't really any alternatives. I play other games, but none of them have the (illusion of) replay value that Skyrim has, so I keep coming back. GrndZero
With me, it is mostly mods. There can be such a complexity to some mods or combination of a couple. I started Skyrim later than some then stopped to play some other games. Even uninstalled it. I recently came back because I received a free xbox copy, then realized how awful it looked on the console and decided to reinstall it on the computer and see what new mods were out. Since I came back all three new DLC's were released and I have been messing with those and a bunch of new mods that have been released.I made a new character recently specifically to start as a Vampire with the alternate start mod and did the Dawnguard quest. I didn't even go through the main questline until after doing Dawnguard.Thinking about doing some immersion mods next time through.
ZoMHead
I am on my fifth profile. Redguard, taking advantage of all the boosts (+20 alteration, + 20 destruction, + 20 archery, + 20 smithing and +25 one handed). Went for heavy armor (+15 for light and heavy starting, warrior stone gives boost to heavy so i chose that). Clocked 450 hours now, and doing it all over again, every time it is different. Everyday, new mods which add armors, weapons, visuals and so on......freaking awesome game seriously.
voidgenesis
Great to see I am not the only one. Maybe I should give Morrowind a go some time. The mods and the idea of playing is definitely a big part of it compared to the reality of playing. I think I probably spend more time on the forums/nexus than playing some weeks. Guss
Things that would get you back to The Elder Scrolls games: - Massive modding community- DLC- It being a Free roaming RPG in which you can make your story go any way you want it to and the massive amount of custom stuff you can have. 70% of the play throughs you will do different stuff and never the same. - Far Cry 3 and all those others you got some of the abilities or different thingsbut its the same every play through, finish the game kill what? own people hunt downenemies, or start over. ehh.
