How to safely attach script to vanilla object

Trying to attach the temple blessing script to Meridia's shrine in KilkreathExteriorRuins03. The shrine is also an activator for the "The break of Dawn" quest. However, after that quest is completed, it doesn't seem to do anything.

 

I've tried simply editing the object to have the script, but the activator did nothing when I tested it.

 

I could be selecting the wrong item. The actual activator appears to be the crystal held by the shrine (a pair of small statues facing each other), which I can't seem to find in the object list for that cell.

 

So, what code do I need to add to prevent my script from interfering with the quest? Is there a way to turn the shrine itself into an activator and use that instead?

 

Also, what's this wireframe around the shrine? it seems to define the space of the object which makes for some behavior, especially when rotating. I'd like to make it smaller so I can manipulate just the shrine, but can't seem to find any setting for it.
