microtransactions will be added on most if not all EA games

Good games sell themselves. I only do single-player on the PC and am not interested in this form of payment.

Then why did you even bother posting in this thread?

Because horrible ideas implemented by major companies tend to also get implemented by smaller ones due to those one-off instances where there are people who are actually willing to pay extra to use something they already bought.

It's like buying an action figure that is packaged with all sorts of attachments and such, but having to fork over extra money just to unwrap those attachments even though it was still sold in the same package. You wouldn't find any children stupid enough to be willing to do this, so why are we?

EA is changing their position due to negative feed back http://www.gamespot.com/news/ea-clarifies-position-on-having-microtransactions-in-all-games-6404901

"It allows someone to take a game that maybe they played for 1,000 hours and play it for 2,000 hours," said Jorgensen. "We are very conscious that we don't want to make consumers feel like they're not getting value. We want to make sure consumers are getting value.

I lol'ed.

Clearly this person has no idea what the hell they're talking about.

Look at who said it though; it's no surprise that he'd say something stupid like that.

Yeah, EA's financial lead. THAT is what is really troubling (and explains an awful lot about EA's strategies over the last decade). The ones in charge of finances, marketing, and budgeting SHOULD know what sort of product they have, how it is used, what the typical duration is, ect. so that they can make informed financial decisions.

You'd think so wouldn't you, the fact is it's their sport titles that keeps the company afloat, everywhere else they screw up time and again. They remind me of Microsoft, if it wasn't for Windows and Office the company would have gone bust years ago.

Well, to Microsoft's credit, they have alot of free of programming, development, and webservice tools in addition to their normal business. EA on the otherhand hasn't done very much other than donating some money from DLC sales for a map pack to help veterans in the last decade.

You can add to that all the good work Gates has done with the money make from Microsoft, the company has done a lot of good. Still their other ventures have generally ranged from not so great to outright disasters from a business point of view, without the cash cow that is Windows the company wouldn't exist any more.

EA... Bandwagoning again.

Selling half a product or less. How is the content from DS3 not intrusive? Here are some examples: Buy Resources for real money (£2.99), and you don't get many.. But you can redeem them from "Ration Packs" which are collected by Scavenger Bots.

- Bot Voice Pack about £3.99

- Bot Capacity Upgrade (Returns Twice as many resources) - Pay to cheat essentially (£4.99)

- Bot increased speed (Returns to you in half the time) (£4.99)

- Tau Volantis Survival Pack (£11.99)

All of this which is in the game, you pay to unlock

Now the DLC which came out for £7.99 or $10 which is the Epilogue of Dead Space 3 offered 45 MINUTES of additional play on Hard Mode. An absolute disgrace.. Ubi-Soft are no better.
