abtbearings
Quite agree. I suffer the same problem sometimes.
WildWeasel1967
Hi,is it possible somehow to choose specific download servers ? US and Amsterdam Server are fast, but very often I will be directed to this slow Kent server. How can I avoid that slow Kent server ?
Dark0ne
The Kent server is a premium-only server, so if you turn the premium-only option off you're more likely to get other servers. Just ensure you have 4 threads enabled as this REALLY helps with the download speed. Michlo; we've added 4 new premium servers recently. Are the speeds any better now? Michlo
Hiya. I just tested by downloading the Prophesy of Pendor M&B mod. San Jose, non premium - 5.6 mb/s San Jose 2, CA non premium - 5.6 mb /s Salt Lake 2, non premium - 2 mb/s London 2, non premium - 225 kb/s Seattle, non premium - 4.7 mb/s Chicago, premium - 470 - 500 kb/s Denver, premium - 1600 kb/s Denver 2, premium - 1300 - 1600 kb/s Kent, premium - 150 kb/s Bear in mind that I'm based in Los Angeles. I hope this helps. Cheers.
Dark0ne
So the servers closest to you are the fastest?
Michlo
So the servers closest to you are the fastest?I reiterate, the NON PREMIUM servers are faster. I always used to be able to use the premium servers but now there is no point.
Dark0ne
Premium or non-Premium, it still holds true that the servers closest to you are going to be the fastest. Your nearest Premium servers are Denver, ~1000 miles away, and Chicago, ~2000 miles away, while the San Jose servers are only ~350 miles away. The only difference between Premium servers and non-Premium servers for Premium users is that more people are using the non-Premium servers so at peak times it might be better to use Premium servers over non-Premium. You get to have that choice while non-Premium users do not. Back in the old days Premium servers were the only servers where download managers/multi-threaded downloads worked and ergo, were probably faster no matter where you were. Since we changed the download system last year that all changed, and all servers have this stuff enabled for Premium members as standard. And that's why San Jose non-Premium is faster for you; because it's not overloaded and ergo, is the closest and fastest server for you. So you might ask what's the point of being a Premium member if the fastest server for me is the closest non-Premium server. The answer is simple; if you weren't a Premium member you wouldn't be able to multi-thread your downloads and it's unlikely you'd get to top speed with only 1 download thread. Today, Kent server was as fast as the others. Looks like the speed of that premium server is now as good as in the old days. Thanks a lot ! rbfqueen
I haven't downloaded anything for awhile as we recently moved. I usually got 1-2 mb/s on the Denver premium servers at our old house (we only moved 20 mi south - we live in upstate NY). I thought TWC was throttling everything for me now after I noticed my speeds on the Chicago premium server tonight. I tried downloading Avast! from download.com, got 2.5-3 mb/s, so no across the board issues... Came back to Nexus: Tried the other premium servers I used to use, 180-300 kb/s again... tried the DC server, 2.5-3 mb/s now. Started testing in order... (all tests completed downloading Skryim Immersive Creatures 5.1.1 as it was the largest file I was trying to get)Premium:Chicago - starts at ~600 kb/s, after 15 seconds drops to 365 kb/sDenver 2 - starts at ~600 kb/s, drops steadily, after ~30 sec at ~240-270 kb/s, holdingDenver - starts at ~500 kb/s, drops steadily, after ~30 sec at ~150 kb/s, still dropping... Regular:DC - peaks at 4 mb/s, gradually drops and steadies at ~2.5 mb/sDallas - same as aboveSeattle - same as above...San Jose - same as above...Amsterdam - same as above...London - same as above... I don't really care what server it says I'm using as long as I get the better download rate, but I've always used premium to take my traffic off the ones everyone else is using. No more Ms. Nice Girl for me I guess :)
