Need Help. CTD no matter how I install Mods. Going Insane.

Hey i'm having another problem now. I've clocked about 5 hours in my game now, with no problems whatsoever. About 2 and a half hours in, I installed Wet and Cold, then Cloaks of Skyrim, then Frostfall. Again, no problems. But now, all of a sudden, i'm having different CTD issues. and they're frequent. Main one being when I first start the game up, it gets to the menu and crashed 50-70% of the time. If it doesn't crash there, then it crashes randomly about 15-20 mins into a session. BOSS says everything is clean too. I'm starting to think that it might be my hardware...

My rig is good. However my mate who helped me build it, apparently knew less about computers than I thoughht he did.

 

Windows 7 64

Asus Sabertooth z77 Motherboard

16GB of RAM

HD Sapphire 7850 2GB OC (overclocked + fan speed increased to 80%)

Antec 620W HCG Power Supply

WD 1TB Black HDD for primary and games

 

All that is good, but my CPU on the other hand, is only a Intel i5-2500k, because for some reason, he thought this would be a good idea for a gaming rig, less than a year ago. The Galaxy S4 will have a better CPU than my rig for christ's sake!

 

Anyway, could my game be crashing because of my CPU crumbling under the pressure? Because if so, I feel inclined to make my friend eat it.

no 2500 k are the new series from Intel and pretty good for OC if you need to :smile:

 

in Frostfall menu, go to the Help tab, clic Wet & cold for patching, check the both mod, they must be high in you load order

I think i'll give up now haha. I tried that Wrye Bash thing you suggested, and that seemed to fix it last night. I played for another good hour. But now when I've returned this morning, the game wont even start up. And I haven't changed a single thing at all. It CTD's as soon as I get to the main menu, over and over. And if i manage to get past that, it crashes on load.

I've had the game for almost 2 weeks now, and i've done the tutorial about 13 times, and after all your help (which was awesome byt the way :biggrin:) and all the research i've done, it still wont work. And i've only got about 25 mods. I don't know what to do at this point. The game runs stable for ages, then does this every time, and even when it's running, i'm to afraid to update any mods or install any DLC because i'm worried it'll screw up. I love having the game modded, but I have a feeling i'm gonna have to stick to vanilla :(

What version of Skyrim are you using? To check press Esc while in game to bring up the load/save menu and look in the lower left corner. It may be that you are using a version that the mods are not compatible for. If you had opted in for beta updates when installing Skyrim & Steam then you most likely have the 1.9 beta which could be incompatible with some or all of your mods.

2500k is a great cpu, Was no1 in budget enthusiast gamingcpu suggestions in a lot of pc sites a year ago.

Ishara meradin is probably right, then please don't get me wrong, you're using a legal copy of skyrim with steam right? if so go and check your game cache integrity.

I have the same hardware as you and I can tell you it is not the CPU but with the graphics card. I installed the Skyrim Performace Monitor and my CPU only hit 50% but I hit 100% easily on the Graphics (processing and VRam usage). I have replaced just about every texture there is but the ones that have given me the most problems were ones for snow and rain and I think it is because of the particles so I ended up dropping these mods. To try and combat this I have used The Ordenador to clean up the graphisc files and reduce textures to 2048. The other thing I have done is use the Skyrim Configurator to tweak things in the ini file. Also the ENB you use can b e a huge hit on the GPU so you may want to try a few different ones out. With no ENB I hit well over 60 fps but with some I only get 25.

Hey I haven't been at my computer for a few days, but thanks for all the replies.

 

I checked my game version. I don't remember exactly which one it was, but it said it was at 1.8 plus a bunch of other numbers. In other words; up to date and no beta 1.9.

It is a legal steam copy and I've verified cache integrity as well. It's really strange. I went on now, and it's letting me in the game, then it suddenly starts crashing again. It can't decide whether it's stable or not.

I'm all out of ideas, and I'm certainly out of patience. I don't want to start all over, and reinstall everything and feel like it's fixed, only for the CTDs to start again. I must be missing some important step with all of this. It doesn't make sense that Veladarius can have such a heavily modded game with the same hardware as me, yet I can barely run it for more than a few hours, with a measly 25-30 mods.

And like I mentioned before, I don't want to finally have it all sorted out, only to have it all die on me when I add a mod, DLC, or simply preform a mod update.

I know it sounds like i'm whining now, I really don't want it to, but this has literally become my free time, and so far it's all been for nothing.
