Dmz96
Hi, I have been plauged with CTDs lately, the sole cause being LvlPredatorScript.psc according to papyrus logs. I searched this in google and found that this file casues CTDs if you install a mod that edits AI and then uninstall it - the thing is I haven't uninstalled a single mod! On top of that after last save got corrupted by this nonsense, I deleted skyrim, deleted the appdata for skyrim, and deleted the INIs for skyrim. Redownloaded, reinstalled, brand spanking new - Yet I still have CTDs. What's even stranger is that they don't start right away. For example I'll be doing the bleak falls barrow quest, cross half the field in front of whiterun to get there, and have not a single CTD. I'll then travel to the western watchtower scott free. Yet after I when reach level 12 (my other save it took until 18 or 19 I believe), the CTDs begin! I can't walk half way to the western watchtower, let alone 30 meters out of whiterun without the game crashing. I don't have a whole ton of gameplay mods installed, only textures. Here is my mods and papyrus logs: Log: [03/12/2013 - 08:51:56PM] Papyrus log opened (PC)[03/12/2013 - 08:51:56PM] Update budget: 1.200000ms (Extra tasklet budget: 1.200000ms, Load screen budget: 2000.000000ms)[03/12/2013 - IsharaMeradin
First off, what you found on google about the LvlPredatorScript is dead wrong. Someone just assumed that and lots of people followed suit. What is happening with that error is that there are hundreds if not thousands of references of just a handful of animal actors in the predator classification. Bethesda rather than going thru each reference and applying the script as needed applied the script to the base record so that all references would have access to it. There are maybe a hundred or less references throughout the entire game that have enable parents which toggle their spawning on/off depending upon certain scenarios. The battle at Whiterun is one such scenario. They didn't want wolves and other animals getting in the way of the combat. The script tries to enable the animal actor to spawn but it's enable-ability is controled by an enable state parent (typically an Xmarker in the Creation Kit). Because there is an enable state parent on these actors the script prints out an error. The rest of the script processes fine and there is no harm done. Also keep in mind that the Papyrus log is not a crash log but an error output log for Papyrus scripts. You won't get any log info anywhere if your crash was due to chocking up on loading up some texture or mesh. I would suspect that your crashing is due to reaching the combined limits of your system and Skyrim. After all you have 92 mods many of which include high res textures. There is a limit somewhere. Whether that be ram, vram, cpu, gpu, or Skyrim itself I am not sure. It could be different for each person as each computer setup is different. Long story short... Reduce the # of mods and try a new game.

Reduce the # of mods and try a new game. I'll try to ditch some of the textures I guess, but I don't think my system is the limiter here. I have a GTX 670 4GB card, 8 GB Ram, and an i5-3570k, with GPU-Z reporting a max vram of just under 3gb. There are several people on another forum running off of this list http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/articles/843/ with very similar systems to mine. I didn't even install a lot of the mods on that list, but I did throw some into the mix - Skyrim Unleashed, Duel: Combat Realism, Balanced Magic, and Skyrim Project Optimization. What you say makes much more sense than what I am reading, but I'm not sure if I'm following on what is actually causing the CTD. I did the first mission for the legion - getting the jagged crown - I did bleak falls burrow, I did the first companions missions (up to and after going to retrieve a fragment of wuuthrad) , and I did the first dragon fight at the western watch tower all without a CTD. Then after all of that, after returning to dragonsreach to talk about the greybeards with the jarl, I then travel back out into skyrim and that is when the CTDs begin. Is this script disabled until after the player completes the western watch tower? I could understand how the CTD would arise then, but otherwise, I've been all throughout skyrim before that specific instance - just at a lower level - so how is it that now it begins to crash because I've progressed past a certain mission? IsharaMeradin
The script is active whenever an animal actor with that script is loaded. There are several of them around Whiterun which are tied to enable state parents with the specific intention of disabling their chance to spawn while the entire scenario for the battle of Whiterun is taking place. When that particular quest is finished and the cells get loaded again the animal actors are re-enabled. This script being present on the actor will always error due to the presence of said enable state parent. Even if the Whiterun battle quest is over the enable state parent marker is still there and in control of those particular actors. It should be noted that there are animal actors which fall under this category all over Skyrim and not just in the Whiterun area. Based on how much you played before getting the crash, if that was in one complete sitting then you definitely reached some limit somewhere especially with all those high res texture mods. After each crash, reboot your computer. If there is anything chocking up your system, it will be flushed out for sure. Script heavy mods also play a factor in the stability of your game. If Papyrus bogs down due to too much overload, it could possibly result in a crash, tho in that case freezing is more apt to take place. You should also be aware that as you play and introduce more and more areas to your character that more and more data is being stored and saved in your save game. Crashes can also occur because you've been to a location and then added a mod which changed that location. Skyrim doesn't like drastic changes and really fights to keep things they way they were in the save file.
Dmz96
I see now. So, for example (but this applies to other areas of Skyrim), before the watch tower, certain animals are disabled in that area. I run aroujd, doing other quests, and when I finally come back to the watch tower and kill the dragon, the animals are allowed to spawn again. So any mods that affect animals in particular could be a direct problem, no? I also noticed that a save I made in whiterun just after speaking with the jarl is 5000kb. Walk over to the field out of whiteout and save? 6,500kb. An additional 1500kb for walking out of whiterun. Ill ditch some of those mods, there are quite a few that really don't need to be in there, and I rather keep the ones that make the largest difference and sacrifice some of the smaller ones. If I had to guess, however, I think the bellyaches hd animals is causing this. Edited March 13, 2013 by Dmz96
IsharaMeradin
I wouldn't say a mod that affects animals is the direct problem. Any mod that adds additional actors whether it be animals or NPCs is going to add strain to the system. Most people will claim to have had a stable game, add one mod and things go bad. They then state that that mod caused all their problems because when they removed it, their game became stable again. At a stage like that it doesn't matter what mod would have been added, any mod would have pushed the game past its limits. Example, I had a repeatable scenario where the companions would not fight the giant on my first approach to Whiterun. I removed the last mod I had installed and the scenario played out as it should. Put that mod back on and again they would not fight. That mod was affecting the scenario by overloading my system and causing it to choke up. Rather than crash it chose to not process some things. I did not realize that that was the case until I had removed all mods and started testing one by one to see when that particular issue appeared. I installed in a different order and the issue didn't appear till I added the next to last mod. At that point, I kept getting the issue despite removing mods. Only after I rebooted my computer did the scenario play out correctly with a lower amount of mods than what I wanted. All that to say, any mod can cause game instability when the game is already being pushed to its limits. If you have the time and inclination, you could play the game first without mods to see what it is like. Then slowly add a few mods and try again. Repeat till you reach the breaking point and back off by a few mods to give you some head room.
Dmz96
Got it now, thanks! I will do mod by mod, I rather take the time to make my game stable than keep restarting every day :/
Dmz96
Well, I just got back to the spot that causes me to crash in a new game - and it's gone! Not only that, but I was also able to accept the redguard woman mission for once and not crash from that too! It looks like TES5Edit Cleaning the main files while also removing a good chunk of the mods/dropping the resolution on some of the HD mods helped a ton, but best of all Skyrim still looks just as good, perhaps lacking a bit, but not a whole ton. Thanks for the help, the game is running great now!
jazzak25
Yeah this is perhaps the most cryptic of CTDs, atm it's preventing me from playing my next playthrough, once I can get rid of it I will be sweet. Testing it out my fps runs at no lower than 50 fps, after a two hour run through my papyrus log only clocks up 30k, meaning it is very light on scripts. This is all on a clean save too. It only happens outdoors though so if I leave autosave on in each location i'm sweet, unfortunately it's something I don't think the USKP team can address either. I'll keep an eye open on these forums for more.
vlaka
As much as I love Skytest Real Predators mod I can't help but feel it's the cause of the CTD's and the lvlpredatorscript.psc error.Ever since I started a fresh playthrough without the mod my game has been virtually CTD/error free. That is of course if you are using it to begin with ;)
