Superrpgman
Ok, so it's like this. Years ago I asked for recommendations for some basic mods that are considered essential, planning to go from there, and someone replied telling me to do all these complex things and follow really complicated, confusting steps to do them. and disable things like disable all autosaves. It literally put me off from playing this game entirely, and I haven't touched it in a long time. I'm hoping that the person was paranoid, and you don't really have to do all of this just to play them game without it becoming super glitchy, and crash happy, and so I'd like to hear if this really is the case or not. I didn't have to do so for Fallout New Vegas or Fallout 3 after all. Man, I just really hope that this isn't the case, because I wanna enjoy one of my favorite games again. If it's not the case, can you please recommend some good, basic, easy to install mods that work really well together? I also would like some advice on how to create a backup where I can either go back out vanilla if I need to, or better yet start over with the basic mods that you people would be willing to recommend. Thanks.

Thanks. The more that you mod your Skyrim game the more necessary it is to use tools and fixes to keep it stable. If you play the vanilla game and just add a few armor mods, for instance, then they aren't necessary. However, as you add more mods, and more complex mods, the tools are absolutely essential to avoid frequent CTD or infinite loading screen. The best guide to this, of which I am aware, is this:https://www.loverslab.com/blogs/entry/7521-conglomerate-01-installing-skyrim-stability-fixes-tools/It has been used successfully by hundreds of people and, while it requires a little work, is straightforward and not particularly hard to do. Last, as far as backup, you shouldn't need to worry about it much. If you decide to start over delete everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) in your Skyrim directory and just reload from Steam (i.e., let Steam be your backup for the vanilla game - after all, you paid them for it). Shadeybladey
can you please recommend some good, basic, easy to install mods that work really well together? But to what end? We don't know what type of game you prefer. Glorious graphics, nitty-gritty survivalist, role-playing etc The bare basics are easy. I think the main thing is to clean the Master files with TES5Edit (this and making a bashed patch are probably what appeared so complex, but there are guides out there) So first, get the Unoffical patches, or USLEEP for SLE (IE all the DLC). I assume you play LE rather than SSE or Oldrim and just 1 or 2 DLC. SkyUI SKSE, of course, which is not a mod but a script extender needed by SkyUI and many other mods. All, or at least most, of Arhmoor's mods Categorized Favorites Menu, which takes some tweaking and setting up, but once it's done it's great and better for my money than SkyUI favourites And get the most recent versions of the mods you want. After that it really depends on your play style, preferred character types and so on. Kyptopyr's (sp?) CACO is a great cooking and alchemy mod, although I don't use it as I have my own, but I use several of his other mods like Stealth Skills Rebalanced. I like the survival, Ranger and camping type mods, and recreating AD&D classes in a Daggerfall Style and old Daggerfall Classes like Spellsword, Nightblade etc and role-playing them, or Rangers, Druids, Thief etc. There are some excellent mods for a Bard when I want to play a Bard, Druid mods for that. I don't always use them, but I can if I want to. And Pocket Empire Builder let's me build campsites and Strongholds in the wilderness and leave some followers there and tell them to Relax. When I come back, they have chopped a ton of wood and mined all the ore veins within the Stromnghold. I could list my current mod list, but I don't know how much help that would be. There is a guide for it as well, but I would put my Vanilla Masters back in data, and delete everything except the masters, associated bsa files and high res graphics, verify files for the Vanilla scripts etc and replace the Vanilla masters with the cleaned versions. As I always keep the zip/rar files of mods I download, I can then install the ones I want. DOH! Shadeybladey
Oh, I'm actually played the Special Edition. Am I on the wrong board? No idea! There may be a forum section dedicated to SSE, but the same general principles apply. Take a look and repost your query there if there is an SSE Forum. I play SLE. :)
