minidruid
So Ive been playing skyrim a little more immersive/lore friendly but am really struggling to find a nice solid house mod that isn't really gigantic nor ones that seem too regular and plain looking. The ones like Halls of Dovahndor are way too large and overdone for my liking. The smaller ones such as Dovahkiin's retreat are simple and nice but just a tad just too small. If anyone can recommend a good house that is more medium size but still has room for weapons/armor and minor customization i would really appreciate it. Edit: I do have hearthfire but i honestly find those houses to blah. Not enough to do with them once they are built. Jeir
My favourite house mod is Nchuzzrezar, although it is a somewhat large house...but no way near as large as Dovahndor. o.O;
Dart98Rock
I use Haven and Castle Stonespire. There is one I saw a video on (can't remember the name), but you modify the house in game (make addons, interior, 2nd floor, etc.) by using a crafting station. IsharaMeradin
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/18112 -- Grey Ledge ManorIt is an open world home meaning that there are no load doors to go thru. It has all the crafting stations, three mannequins and several weapon racks. Comes with a "steward" (actually a live in merchant who can become a follower). There is an included dungeon/mine (with load door access) that you can explore or just hide out in till daylight passes if you RP a vampire like that. Because it is a no load door home vampires do not get any reprieve of effects thus the dungeon/mine had been added. I've used it some, but myself I get too involved in quests to just stop and sit around at a house.

Stonespire looks pretty promising so im going to download and take a look at it, and i believe the mod your thinking of is build your own house. Which reminds me that i havent actually tried that out yet. http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/18112 -- Grey Ledge ManorIt is an open world home meaning that there are no load doors to go thru. While i love how the house has no load doors the pictures make it seem pretty average house size like those found in the cities which are what im trying to slightly upscale from. Im probably being overly picky though.
Luinithil
Current favourite is Grey Haven (house in Winterhold) and Brilliant Breezehome and Burrows. The latter may be too... developed for your tastes; but you can always get the house-only version.
tewlons
I use a few, but I'm also going to check out some of the suggestions here, becuase they look pretty cool. Also, this mod: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/18480 is worth mentioning. It lets you build the house yourself with customization options. You will have to collect materials to make the house. Once completed, it's a really nice looking house set on a waterfall. I found it fun collecting the materials and building the house, and after putting some effort into building the home, it feels more like home. If you want something simple that has all the crafting stations and stuff, Dragon Falls Manor is also a good choice.
JohnTheBomb
I really like Riverside Lodge, it's just between Riverwood and Whiterun so it's a prime location and for me it's a perfect size with everything I want. Ever since using it I've not touched another home. It's also pretty beautiful with the waterfalls and all.

And for a city house i prefer Bert's Breezehome Remodel. Edited April 1, 2013 by sweagle
