neiljwd
1st of all I have a 100% legit Skyrim through steam, with all the DLC's. I'd like to start modding, but A: I don't want to turn all my addons on and off to test if my created mod is working, each time I want to test or Play my normal game. And B: to ensure I don't create any unneccsary depencies on my created mod etc. So yeah is it possible to have a separate 2nd Skyrim install, that I can have with no mods or texture files in, just complete vanilla please? neiljwd
IS that it?C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim^is where skyrim lives, I've copied the SKYRIM folder thereto backup drive, just a er, backup, for safety. If I launch the game from there, it will work? What about game saves? Dont they all go within C:\Users\Neil\Documents\My Games\SkyrimWill it get confused? Sorry for the utter nub questions. Georgiegril
Any files you want backups of, you will need to copy to your backup folder. In order to play either one, you need to be connected to steam, so you would have to make sure your steam account and everything are all pointing to the correct location. neiljwd
I am a nub, so sorry for being a nub, but I copied the skyim folder, but it's not a 'separate instance' of skyrim. it's just a second location for my main skyrim. What I mean is I go to my copied Skyrim, open launcher, deactivate all my mods, but then go to my main Skyrim folder and try to play Skyrim, all my mods are deactivated.I don't want this, I want a totally separate instance of Skyrim :/

ripple
You can use the Mod Organizer, which will allow you to set up different user 'profiles' with their individual load orders, mod installations, even ini settings, so you won't need to move any files, just switch to a 'clean' user profile when modding.
