CTD on loading of specific saves

so, A long story short...
I was playing Skyrim two days ago when my game randomly crashed. I thought nothing of it and just went to sleep cause it was late and I am tired.
Since then I didn't touch Skyrim at all besides
1) Copying some files for a mod
2) Running the Creation Kit through Mod Organizer
3) Renaming a couple mod file folders to rebuild them with a mod I was working on

My computer also had updated since then, but when I got onto Skyrim today and tried to load my most recent save (Save#284) it CTD. I went back to an older autosave and it worked long enough for me to try and save... annnd... it CTD... so now from Save#189 to the most recent save all CTD when loading... what is weird about it is it's not effecting any other character besides the one character.

I have tried many things from Validating files, cleaning up mods and mod load order, save file cleaning, I have even went as far to try and modify the save files with... little success due to not having the tools for it.

I have been able to deduce that it is not a problem with the mods themselves, as far as I can tell, but I will say that the last time I played when it crashed, the last thing I was doing, was I tried to enchant gear but forgot to take off some things and caused an integer overflow crashing my game. granted, that happens a lot, but what I was doing before that was using the Spell Research mod to try and get my research done.

I had saved a little bit before the incident right after changing some settings for the Spell Research.

If anyone has some insight that could help or has been through this before, please help. I am going to attach the save file in question that I am having problems with along with a mod load-order and some crash logs.

Actually, The save file was too big sooo I put it on dropbox:

Important Note: There are some NSFW mods on this save. (I.E. Body replacers that include nudity)

I've never once crashed while enchanting a piece of gear I'm wearing. In fact, that's how I enchant all armor/clothing items for my character. Exclusively.

I think you're being a bit hasty in exonerating your mods/load order/etc

heh, you may think so, but I spent an entire day trying to fix it. I really don't think it's a problem with the mods, but it could always be cause mods will be mods, ya' know? That's why I included my mod load order with the save.

Also, this was a crash caused by an integer overflow, it happens when you enchant an item and the number is so high that Skyrim can't handle it... cause, ya' know, I am the kinda guy who does restoration loop. lol

Hi TWDTheFurry,

In case you've not tried this.

After having a ton of occurrences of CTD upon saving,

over a lot of gaming hours, and after doing a lot of

"try this, try that" attempts, I stumbled across

ReSaver.exe by Fairchild.

Resaver found over 1800 unattached instances

and over 500 undefined elements on my current

save file.

Both values are supposed to be zero.

Upon using Resaver, after about 20-30 gaming hours,

I've only experienced 1 CTD upon saving; and that

save had a bunch of unattached instances and

undefined elements in it.

I make it a habit to run resaver either before or after

a SSE gaming session, not trusting the save file to be clean.

If you've already been doing this, then others on this

forum (who are 1000x smarter than I am, at troubleshooting)

should hopefully intervene on your behalf.

Happy gaming, and best wishes toward getting through the CTDs.

Hey, Thanks for the suggestion, but yeah, I have tried Resaver already. It's such an odd thing, especially since I did everything you can do to clean a Skyrim Save and yet this odd problem persists. I am tempted to dig into Skyrim much deeper to get to the bottom of this, but I haven't played in a while cause of the problem (Cause I had a lot of progress lost and wanted to recover it and not just give up on it, ya' know?)

There really should be a sticky in this forum explaining stack dumping. Seems like the most common issue with Skyrim modding.

Unfortunately, there is no solution outside uninstalling the mod(s) responsible for the suspended stacks. You can find out what mods these are by looking at your papyrus log. If you see a mod constantly being referenced along with "suspended stacks" or "dumping stacks". It's likely your culprit. In regards to your game save file. If caught early enough, the file can be saved with Resaver. Save files can and will become corrupted if a dumping stack is left untreated.

How to spot script dumping before it ruins your save :

When in game, keep an eye out for the following.

Long save times.

Scripted events not starting.

Scripted events starting 30+ seconds after being triggered.

Extreme lag appearing out of nowhere.(Although this could be another issue)

These are usually good signs that something has gone wrong. Typically a result of one or more mods spamming function calls, forcing the scripting engine to suspend stacks.

If you notice these issues, make a hard save and clean with Resaver. It would also be wise to dig through the papyrus log to identify what mod is causing the issues. This can be difficult at sometimes. I may make a guide in the future, detailing exactly how to pinpoint the faulty script and subsequently, the mod it belongs to.

Nah, Don't think it has to do with this unless I missed something. I checked the logs and all and couldn't really find any problem. I could check through them again though cause it was three entire days worth of saves that just suddenly stopped working.

I don't know if I specified this during the first post, but the crash happened right around when I was using this "Spell Research" mod. Although, I have my doubts if it caused it cause There was also 10 npcs in the room with me at the time.

I am tempted to go through everything again though cause I really wanna try to recover this save... I really don't want to backtrack my way through the entire vigilant's first quest arch again.
