I'm thinking of something with more of a 1952 reference. Funny you should say that. My dad had a used 1951 Chrysler convertible when I was little in the early 1960s. I remember he took me once to a polo match at a local park (no we weren't in the richie rich set, but I think my dad wished he was... and probably would have been if he hadn't settled down and raised a family of five and took a dull job as a college professor). Anyway, I recall parking between two trees and watching a game. I had no idea what was going on but I liked riding in it and it was one of the few really "happy" memories with my dad. It was parked shortly after in our garage, due to some major engine issue he couldn't solve himself, and there it sat for another 30 years before he sold it to a collector. PS> the tires remained inflated for the entire 30 years, although the brakes locked up completely due to rust. but I digress... PS> you weren't thinking of Buick were you? Ie the 1952 Buick Roadmaster, as seen in Rainman? (movie, Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise I believe)
thumbincubation
That sounds like a warm and comforting memory. I hope it made you smile a little inside, while you were typing it. It made me smile for you, and brought back childhood memories of my own. Oh, to have those days back... I was actually thinking of song lyrics by the B-52s. "Hop in my Chrysler, it's as big as a whale, and it's about to set sail."
anjenthedog
well thank you for the kind words. Yeah it did. My dad died in 2013 and even if we weren't best of pals (middle kid + my dad had too many responsibilities once my younger twin bros were born in 1963...made for a messy relationship), I miss him. We were next door neighbors until he had to go to hospice. PS> aha now I understand., Yea I remember that. . my mid 80s days...the only times I ever enjoyed dancing. (not to mention all the cute just graduated parochial school chicks who hung with us at the time...which is who got me dancing hahahha) Oh... and they *were* land whales too., We *also had a beater 1952 Roadmaster (not at all as pretty as the one in the movie). When I was 3 and 4 years old I'd ride in the back above the passenger seats in the rear window area when we went to visit family (hundreds of miles away) on highway trips. me, my pillow, a "blankie", and this big curved rear window I could watch the world through... back when highways had very little traffic. My dad drove like an old lady in the right lane, back in the days when people actually paid attention to the rules of the road and only passed on the left, etc) That car was massive. anjenthedog
yeah that was the intention (play on the title...a work I never actually saw but am familiar with by name). I'm sure it was a "woosh" post title for anyone too young to have been taught the world existed before the year 1990. tbh, I'd forgotten that name entirely (Zero Mostel). He was considered old when I was young. slightly younger than both of my grandmothers (Maternal b1910 and Paternal b1912 respectively) and significantly younger than my paternal grandfather (born 1896 and quite the lady's man in his day, or so I've been told. PS, they were married until his death, coincidentally in the same year Zero died) Man, am I bored or what? This lockdown is killing me.

I watched it when it was on TV in 1970, but I was only 7 years old at the time, so I couldn't make heads or tails out of it.I just remember a glass of Horse Sweat that everybody kept accidentally drinking. anjenthedog
heh. sounds a bit like my memories of watching Dr Zhivago at a drive -in movie theater during a summer in the mid late 60s. All I can remember is the rural home that was covered in ice. And being pretty disturbed by the whole thing (as far as I got anyway). TG the other movie that played just before it was Fantastic Voyage. I fell asleep on top of our station wagon while watching Dr Zhivago. It was Boooooring to a preteen
Moksha8088
Dr. Zhivago, favorite movie! I was thinking of the tail fins on the 1958 Budgemoblile.
anjenthedog
Quote Dr. Zhivago, favorite movie!Really? to this day Zhivago still gives me the creeps, especially in light of the rebirth of the Bolshevikian movement. (although seeing Fahrenheit 451 when I was little was even more scarring).
thumbincubation
That car needs to be painted haze gray and fitted with an engine telegraph, instead of a gas pedal.
