Draiden
Good morning, Forums and fellow Dovakiin: Would anyone be able to parse my papyrus log? The last page and a half are pasted below. I keep crashing on the approach to and from Riverwood (right by the, well, River), just as you get attacked by the two wolves in what is probably the first post-Helgen combat. Everywhere else I can run around just fine, it seems. Thank you all for any assistance you are able to provide. Georgiegril
Well, it looks like you have Lightning during thunderstorm mod? but I am not convinced that is your problem. The place you are crashing is a common one, especially if you have a lot of mods that spawn new creatures or encounters. Try running BOSS, addressing any messages, then, if you still are crashing, try removing some of your mods that affect spawns, encounters, music, etc. (exactly as instructed by the mod author.) You could also try removing the lightning mod, of course.
Draiden
Thanks for replying, Georgiegril! I have tried removing Minty's mod (and it's attendant co-compatibility mod for Climates of Tamriel), but that did not seem to help. I'm still a novice when it comes to mod-management, I haven't learned yet to use anything more advanced than NMM and some .jar patchers (like ReProccer for SkyRe)> I'll look into using BOSS (and Wyre) if this problem persists and proves un-surmountable. Thanks again : )
Georgiegril
Yeah, I didn't think the lighting mod was the problem. The papyrus log is not a crash log, it just records script actions. Often the cause of the crash is not script related, and even if it is, it may npt be recorded before the crash. BOSS is mod sorting software.Download the installer version, it's much easier. Just download to your desktop or wherever, open, follow the installer instructions. Then run BOSS, and make sure you choose to have the log in text format. (makes it easy to copy/paste to a post if needed).Read the log, address any comments it gives you. Ignore the TES5Edit or BAshtags suggestions for the moment.Make sure to manually place any unrecognized mods, as the mod author instructs, or in the absence of author instruction, with similar mods.Play and see if it works. If you are still experiencing CTDs, then you may need to look at TES5edit. Wrye Bash is not often needed, but does help in some cases. (you will find links to TES5Edit and the cleaning guide in your BOSS log.)You may also simply have a case of too many mods or too much memory being required of your computer. If BOSS doesn't solve your problem, please post your BOSS log, your game settings, computer specs, and any changes you have made to your prefs.ini/.ini files and/or graphics driver's game profile. Draiden
Thanks once again for your helpful reply, GG: I used Boss and noted that it made some load-order changes. I'm not quite ready to use TES5edit, but the changes BOSS made seemed to have improved my stability somewhat. I'll keep playing and return to this thread if necessary with any further observations. Thanks again!

Draiden
After running around some-more I also noticed another problem area: north of Whiterun (between WR and Halted Streams Camp, for reference). Not sure if having uGridstoload=7 is too much for the PC to handle in this area, given the wide, large vistas. Also have Floral Overhaul and WATER. Tried disabling both, no joy. Will also try reverting to uGridstolad=5 w/ console commands in game, then saving ini later to match. I feel like the problem happens near water, but honestly have no clue why. Any further suggestions?
Draiden
As an update (for anyone else on the forums perusing this or similar problems), I loaded a save from a character for which a new-game was started after all of my latest major mods were installed. I used that character to run around the problem-area giving me the crashes. No screen freezes. I loaded my main from an interior, and seemed to be able to run about the same area without issue. I have no idea whether I'm perceiving this as a fix or work-around or what-have-you, or if it actually had an impact. But I did not experience the same immediate crashes. So far... EDIT: After cleaning each and every one of my Boss-loaded mods w/ TES5Edit in the proper order I still experience the screen-freeze running around between Whiterun and Halted-Streams Camp / Silent Moons Camp. No changes were made to my SkyrimPrefs.ini file or Skyrim.ini file. (I never ended up using console commands to lower my uGridstoLoad setting b/c it does not seem to be the source of any instability). Georgiegril
Well, I wish I could say the solution is obvious, but unfortunately, I am not seeing an obvious cause of a freeze in that location. As far as your mod list goes, nothing jumps out at me as the cause of your crash, but I do have a couple suggestions.1. If you haven't already manually placed your unrecognized mods, I would do that first.2. There are messages about problems with your current version of CoT--it might help to follow the recommendation and get the newer version.3. I dont use Cot or RLO, but I recall seeing some posts that suggested that using both of these caused problems for some people. I don't know it that was resolved, but you might look into it.4. BOSS is telling you you are using the wrong version of Bandolier--that may not be related to your current problem but it seems like it would cause other problems in the future. Freezing suggests to me that you are either running out of RAM or VRAM. However, you have a lot of both. Even so, it is possible that in that location, there is just too much happening.Increasing ugrids does greatly impact the resources utilized by the game. I use 7 ugrids on my much less burly computer, but I also cut back elsewhere to accommodate. Looking at your mods and ini files, it seems to me that you are using a lot of tweaks and settings that are also pretty costly on resources. I wonder, have you tried turning some of these down? For example, it appears that you may have your AA set to 8X? Maybe try 4X?Maybe turn down your sliders a bit, lower fSkyCellRefFadeDistance= to 100000.0000,Turn off papyrus logging except when you actually want to create a log,Maybe decrease your FOV a bit? Finally, have you tried disabling autosaves? That's all I can think of at the moment. Maybe someone else will chime in!
Draiden
I hope so, and thank you for your suggestions. The bit about turning off Papyrus logging - does that have a performance impact? I didn't think about it, but if it's creating, literally, thousands of pages of text in the background, I would imagine it does, hmm. I'll tweak down my AA settings from 8X to 4X, the difference shouldn't be really noticeable. Would that fSkyCellRefFadeDistance really have much of an impact either? GeForce Tweak Guide says: This variable in SkyrimPrefs.ini effectively controls the distance at which clouds are seen, particularly around mountain tops. As the value is raised, more distant mountains gain clouds around them. Lowering this variable will remove clouds from around mountains, up to and including all of them if set to 0. Altering distant clouds should have a mild performance impact. Same query for FOV? I actually can't move the monitor much farther back from where I sit, but I'll try lowering it by 10 or so.Also, do you know of this guide? Skyrim Tweak Guide 2.2 Can you recommend it, if you're familiar with it? EDIT: I just noticed "fDefaultFOX=92" under my Skyrim.ini..no idea how it got like that but I'll assume the 'X' should be 'V' and correc that. Would be weird if a spelling error was causing the mistake XD FURTHER EDIT: The crash might be linked to a missing something still referenced but not longer there, especially since it seems tied to one old character, but not a new one.
