Best reproducible poison?

Skeever Tail

Giant Lichen

Small Antler

Small Antler is one of a few ingredients, all rare, which combined with Salt makes Fortify Restoration.

If you don't use FR ... small antlers are still pretty rare. (FR has some exploits I won't use, but even using it as I imagine it was intended it's still very useful.)

Anyway on top of the problems of rarity and opportunity cost with Small Antlers, Bells actually make stronger poisons. There are a few other ingredients that are as good or better, like Crimson Nirnroot, River Betts, and Jarrin of course, but only Bells are common, plus you can cultivate them if you really love your poisons.

If you absolutely need a 1-hit kill use a River Bett. It's no Jarrin, but at least you can find more than 1.

Actually, Small Anters are more common than Deathbell, if you don't mind hunting. It's just a question of whether you're more in Hjaalmarch or elsewhere. Hjaalmarch admittedly has a ton of Bell, but it's really more the exception than the rule. River Betty is not bad, but I wouldn't bother with Betty unless I'm living in the Rift. Even there, though, you can find a lot more Antlers than Betties.

If you build one of the houses you can grow your own Bells. Every planting produces 3. That's below average but still respectable; make up the difference with more plantings.

Even without HF expansion they're not rare enough that you shouldn't care about missing out on the extra effectiveness of their poisons, 1.5X Small Antlers. Only Betts are better. (Ignoring quest-ingredients like Jarrin.) Small antlers aren't as strong as Bells.

I've never gone out hunting specifically to track down the right kind of elks to get them, but it does seem like a pain in the rear. I'll take your word for it that kind of like mammoths once you know where to look they're easy to find in large enough numbers to matter. If you're going for both quantity and quality maybe it's a good idea to use SA when you run out of Bells.

If you have HF you're never going to run out of Bells. The stuff regrows too fast and the growing cycle is self-regulating; as you run out of poison you return home and *bam* there's more Bells. If you only have a few you only make a few poisons so you return home that much sooner. Effectively you'll never run out of Bells.

If you don't have HF where the heck are you going to find Canis Root? It's both rare and really hard to see. There are a few places I know to look for it, a plant here and a plant there, but that stuff is ridiculously rare.

I've never really played with Hearthfires. I suppose I should one of these days.

Canis Root is one of those things that's pretty common in Hjaalmarch and not too tough to find in The Rift or Falkreath. It's easier to find than Giant Lichen, and that's saying something. You just have to learn what to look for. I nearly always have as much Canis as Bell when doing a Haafingar/Hjaalmarch playthrough.

HF has all you need under one roof ... three, actually.

All the manufacturing tools and workstations are concentrated into two indoor cells. You can also grow your own reagents, so no more Deathbell shortages. Bugs infest the main hall if you build the greenhouse. Eventually you learn to tone out their constant buzzing when you're trying to use the enchanter.

Oh, and the basement needs a chimney. That suicide hole blows right past Charles Dickens into Death of a Salesman territory. The Shrine in the next room is no doubt meant to deal with the continuous stream of carbon monoxide poisoning cases.

Mora isn't really all that common, so you might try Slaughterfish Egg/Scales instead. And if you want a substitute for human flesh, you can find that in Swamp Fungal Pod or Canis Root (which is pretty darn common up in Hjaalmarch).

If you have Dragonborn, you might try Imp Stool + Scathecraw + Swamp Fungal Pod/Canis Root (or Netch Jelly if you don't mind wasting that).

So, Imp Stool + Slaughterfish --> a nice LDH poison. Imp Stool + SFP/CR --> Paralysis.

Blisterwort, Falmer Ear, Fly Amanita, or Troll Fat for Frenzy makes for an entertaining poison.

And of course River Betty, Deathbell, or Nirnroot + Imp Stool/Red Flower/Skeever Tail if you just flat out want your target to die.

Uh, In the Remastered Version- Hanging Moss can easily be harvested in a greenhouse.... Yeah all the DLC is part of the game

Old thread, but the trick is to crank out the fortify restoration glitch. Having crazy powerful enchanted gear for making potions will make anything OP. I once made a paralysis potion and accidentally hit Serana with it during a fight. I eventually decided the only thing to do was to go back to a previous save because I waited, and waited... got up, went to the bathroom, got a snack, went out for a bit, came back, and she was still frozen.
