Skinjack
I know Windows 10 fixed the bug that limited SSE to 4GB a while back. But I just noticed something that concerns me. I've read that Skyrim can't necessarily handle newer video cards like mine, a 2080ti, and the game automatically sets it to low setting. I get around that using BethIni on Ultra and things seem to have worked fine. At least so far. While looking through various logs to find out why I was crashing at a certain point at the beginning of the game in Whiterun, I noticed one log mentioned the memory was rapidly rising (800+mb) and showed a limit of 4.05GB. I believe it was the Vortex.log. My card has 12GB of ram and my PC has 64GB. So is that correct on its reporting? Am I still limited to 4GB somehow? How would I change that? Or is the game just reporting that number due to the game not "recognizing" the GPU? My Windows 10 is up-to-date. I also use SSE Engine Fixes which messes with memory, but its never been adjusted in that mod.
Moksha8088
You've got a lot of memory, but Skyrim SE should be able to use a lot more than your log indicates. On one of the Discord channels I read that the latest ENB release was of some benefit in this regard. I assume you have the latest NVidia drivers. Skinjack
Thank you Moksha8088. I have the latest ENB series. I'm ASSUMING I have the latest drivers. I run Driver Booster and I'm 90% sure I saw that driver when I updated the other day. I will check to make sure. Can you think of any way to increase the number if all I am using is 4GB out of 12? Should I be running software like GeForce Experience or something? Any suggestions? I have an EVGA (NVIDIA) GeForce RTX 2080 Ti. EDIT: I actually downloaded Skyrim Performance Monitor (thought I had that installed) and it is showing 11,264 (MB) of Total VRAM. So it is weird that the log is only saying 4GB. Maybe something left over when Window 10 fixed their limitation? Who knows? I guess I can handle EEKs Beautiful Whiterun, JK's Whiterun, Fortified Whiterun, Autumn of Whiterun plus a few more, so I guess it is working. Haven't had an issue since updating to a new PC (besides conflicts I am in the process of fixing). I'm curious about the 4GB in the log now, though. This is when having a touch of OCD gets REALLY annoying. It's always in the back of your head.
Kulharin
Yah, something is up. If I look at my task manager when the game is running my modded skyrim is a times using over 8GB of ram. I have 32 on my system. I have a 1070... My roommate has a 2070 though with 64 GB or ram. His modded skyrim at times is using 10-12gb of ram according to task manager. anjenthedog
I have 64G of primary memory. I have yet to see Skryim SE use more than ~3.5G. I'm currently at level 63, and I have around 320 mods currently installed. As to video memory, I only have a 6g card, and Skyrim SE can definitely use more than 6G, since spike that crash into my limit are one of my primary CTD causes. Vortex doesn't log anything for the game itself, so any issue in one of its logs would be unrelated.
anjenthedog
fyi, fwiw, Vortex does not have to be open to run SKSE64. Many of us create a shortcut to desktop and fire it up from there. I have all my skyrim related tasks in the quick start menu as shortcuts. the last one in that group is SKSE64, fyi
Skinjack
@ TheGreatFairo, that's probably what it is then. I'm pretty sure it was in the Vortex.log, anyway, when I saw it and got concerned. Now that I have Skyrim Performance Monitor installed I'll make sure to check what kind of VRAM my Whiterun has got running, since I am sure that is probably my hardest hit area. I'm thinking of uninstalling EEK's or JK's. I know EEK's is a resource hog, but I really like it. @ anjenthedog, I'm one of those people with the VORTEX shortcut to SKSE. I've always had that, all the way back to MO1 and LE. Thank you for noting it, though. At least I feel a lot less concerned now. Thanks to everyone for the replies.
