Ethre
As far as Katrina goes I was watching CNN and other channels checking out what happened there and I'm sorry to disagree with you but President Bush could have done so much better, I watched many people die, looters, cops walking off the job. It was terrible. Action should have been immediate. . . . I imagine all Presidents have writers who draft up thier speechs, I know our Prime Ministers do. . . . . Now I know I'm not an American, I have never pretended to be. Sorry Katlaw, but the American presidency doesn't quite work like you seem to think it does. There were undeniable some issues with the emergency response, but Bush wasn't (and shouldn't have been) the one coordinating all of it - that's just not how the process works here. I think all modern president's have/do use speech writers. Hmm and you know this how exactly? Even many long time Republicans voted for him because he inspired them and / or our alternative would have been another nightmare. Yes, however take a look at the black demographic voting record - 95% for Obama. While the black vote has usually gone to the democratic candidate (in recent memory anyway), that's still largely disproportional. Influenced by race? Probably. Enough to swing the election? I don't know about that.
katklaw
Ethre thanks for the correction. It is really interesting to see what Americans actually think rather than have to rely on the great media machines
Guest
Eh, my vote wasn't FOR Obama, but against McCain. Obama isn't that great, but if Johnny boy kicked the bucket Palin would be president. That would be terrible on many different levels.
UncleRoe
It shouldn't be a big deal that we finally have a black president// even if it's never happened before, it's just COLOR!..and i can promise you that his skin color will not make him a better or worse president. You wanna be proud? be proud! i got no problem with that..but if you voted for obama simply because he was the same color as you..consider yourself narrowminded. I've ran across many ppl that love obama.. preach his name and worship his soul..but when i ask what they think about his politics.. they say "huh? he's gonna save the world..and what's prob o tics!?!"... sorry guys..that's not politics... anyone can say they are going to help, it's action that gets my attention. Also..as you can tell i am not much of an obama fan... but when i talk against his politics.. many obama supporters jump the gun and immediatly call me racist...now i never mention race when in a political debate..so if someone calls me a racist when color was never mentioned... i am pretty sure that makes THEM the racist....color aside.. i don't like the man lol..now on that note i liked Mccain but he was an old fart... he literally would forget speeches!..that's not really prez material.. Obama is an inexperienced rookie with a silver tounge, Mccain is an ancient relic that voted for obama because he forgot he was actually running against the guy. i only voted for lesser of two morons. way i see it if you don't vote.. you have absolutly no say when it comes to politics. Geonox
I just sat up all night to watch the Barak Obama Inauguration. What a wonderful spectacle that was. To see so many black and white people side by side, celebrating this historic event brought me to tears. I want to congratulate all Americans for coming of age in electing your first black President. I never thought I would live to see the day and I am so thrilled to have witnessed such an occasion. It shows that America has become more enlightened and by majority has decided to put one of the worst human traits ‘racism’ behind them. What an incredible, inaugural speech! You have chosen well your new President America. He is young, ambitious, very intelligent, eloquent, ntm very handsome hehe and I believe, if given due chance, he will make a great leader. So once again, congratulations! And best of Luck Tigerlilly So funny how we still have to be amazed by the fact that he's the first black president ever elected. We live in 2009 and we speak about putting racism behind us wile we should have done that a long time ago, or let's just say like America should have done that a long time ago compaired to other countries. It's actually quite funny how some people in 2009 still have to fight for their equall rights in the US, wile it's concidered to be a modern country. By saying it's a big deal that they finally elected a BLACK president you actually create a difference between black and white. Colour of skin shouldn't be a big deal at all, who cares even if they selected a purple president. To bad we had to wait untill 2009, but hey on the other hand, better late than never I say :)! Hooray for another big step in american history still I thought the landing on the moon was more exciting...btw when can we expect the first extraterrestrial president? MajKrAzAm
Where is England's prime minister of african ancestry? :biggrin:I don't think that England has ever had a Prime Minister. Nonetheless, this guy was pretty ethnic - for the nineteenth century.
