Co-op multiplayer?

How difficult would this be to implement? I'm aware it couldn't be done in Papyrus at all, and would require re-coding the engine itself (or so I assume), but if somebody were to attempt it, what level of difficulty are we talking? On a scale of 1 to 5, five being more a job for Tony Stark. Nothing fancy, of course, just sharing a single game-instance with a guest-player whose character would be saved under your file. I would think a lightweight game client would have to be written, or else a a client-mode added to the main menu, which would probably be easier for Bethesda to swallow. Simple peer-to-peer play shouldn't be too insurmountable, assuming the modifications could be made at all, right?

I was questioning this concept myself recently. Have you ever tried the "TC" command? It gives you control of the target as if it were your player character. I wonder how much effort it would take to modify the way TC works in order to give control to, say, a joypad user. I even used the NPC that I had taken control of to kill the player character (1-hit blow!) and it worked. Of course, the typical loading screen followed, but this leads me to believe that TC may open up some possibilities for local multiplayer.

Sadly, TC also maintains your control over your own character as well, so each command given is shared by both your character and whoever you used TC on.

LOL! And it's never the same sh*t you've seen elsewhere, correct? I don't see how that's a bad thing. It gets people thinking. And the post that preceded yours proves I wasn't the only person thinking about it. A little variety never hurt anybody. ;)

Sorry about the double-post; I forgot to respond to seldalore and the post-editor keeps giving me a headache. No, I've never used TC, but I've seen it while scouring console commands. It could very well be a step in the right direction, yeah, but I'm not sure. My brain feels a little stale at the moment; was up too late and was listening to The Offspring too loud for too long when I woke up this morning. Still inspired, but my intuition is taking a temporary nap. Which sucks, given that I'm a left-brain thinker. S'okay, I'll be back to my peak after a good night's rest.

No problem, I believe the majority of society are left-brained thinkers (being that the majority of society is right-handed). The Offspring are great; I don't blame you for blasting them.

It's been tried - on your 1 to 5 scale this is a 12. :ermm: Think about having to build a modern automobile from scratch with a set of carpenters woodworking tools. The tools are great for what they were intended for, but fail for tasks that require a different set of tools.

The Gambryo engine just does not have the hooks available to do it. There was a serious effort by a real programmer in Oblivion. After about 2 years he had a sort of coop - but the separate characters were unable to interact with each other, only one could move at a time, and the landscape was completely lifeless without trees, grass, creatures or any NPCs.

Zenimax is working on a Multi player Elder Scrolls - It won't use the same game engine, and it won't be Skyrim, but it will be the ES world. Now realize that mods will probably not be allowed - in multiplayer, mods are usually considered cheating.

Is Skyrim really that different from Fallout 3 ?

A lot of console commands still work.

If it's somewhat interchangable, then what about that Fallout 3 multiplayer mod-thing ?

Could it be used for Skyrim too ?

Please correct me if I'm wrong, I'm just guessing.
