Deltoran0
I have around 90 hours on the game and did not have a problem until i started trying to make a mod, so i uninstalled and then downloaded it again, so it is a fresh copy. So i can presume the issue does not lie with the computer or OS Well a fresh copy of the game does fully work, but as soon as i put any DLC into the game it crashes on the Bethesda softworks splash screen When i validate the integrity of the game cache it downloads one file which is 430 KB in size, the game then crashes on the Bethesda softworks splash screen without any DLC So ultimately i would like to get the game working with DLC again as i had just started Lonesome Road and have finished Old world blues, so it is not ideal to start playing the game again without the DLC. Thank you for any help!

blove
If you have a Menus folder in your fallout new vegas\Data folder, delete or rename it. An unmodded game does not have one.

blove
You might try deleting the fallout.ini located in C:\Users\username\Documents\My Games\FalloutNV. The game will recreate it the next time you start.
Deltoran0
Ok, i think i have discovered what the cause of the issue wasBecause this problem really confused me, because the game would sometimes start with all the same mods, so it defiantly wasn't an issue with game files or mods I Worked out it was a program called raptr that was causing the problem, it tracks game time and has an ingame overlay, kind of like steams, and i think this was the root of the problem However the game often seemed to work after my 3rd try which is quite funny and i think may be purely coincidental So i now close raptr when im going to play new vegas But thank you all for trying to help! mrman9900
I'm not using Raptr, I'm using NVSE and steam. Same issue
Thoran1
Hi, I'll just bump this and provide some background since Raptr was the problem for me. Raptr isn't some strange software that only few have installed. If you have an AMD graphics card you will most likely have Raptr running as it is part of their Gaming Evolved solution. It is the same as Nvidias Gaming Evolved just more buggy. It can set the optimal graphic settings and provide and ingame overlay. The problem seems to be that Raptr and the Steam overlay start at the same time and then cause each other to crash. Just as an Info, with Raptr I had a 1:5 chance to start Fallout New Vegas, without Raptr I have gotten past the Bethesda screen and loaded the game every time in 3 tries. So what's the solution if you have an AMD graphics card?Open Task Manager, end the Raptr.exe process tree before you start Fallout: New Vegas. GameNation
I have an AMD card, but no Raptr, and the same problem. I'm quite frustrated and just want to play my damn game, so if you have any magical solution I will pay you in all the Trident Layers you want.
