Deuteragonist
Short version: I seem to be having the same problem as this user, but I'm not having success fixing it. It's not open in Task Manager. I found some folders with administrator as the user and have changed them to my user. My best guess is that I missed something. What folders specifically do I need to work with here? Longer version: I was trying to share Oblivion mods with another user on my computer. "I'll just go ahead and try it! How badly could I mess this up?" Hoo boy. I've been having other troubles with file permissions, having permissions not save their new settings, especially if I've tried to disable "read only." I'm not sure, but this may be indicative of a much larger problem. I don't remember ever running Vortex in admin mode, either. On the other user's Vortex, which I can open just fine, it wants me to purge the mods. That would be fine, but it's not able to do that due to another set of permissions not working. It's one very specific file deep in the guts of the Oblivion folders. I've tried tweaking permissions but, as I mentioned earlier, I'm not having success with that. I have no idea if that's even related to this problem. It's a mess in here. As far as I know, I've left all my files in their original locations and moved only copies of them. I think I've changed permissions that I didn't need to change. I don't know much at all about Windows OS, and the only thing I found on Google about my problem was that thread I linked earlier. I'm having some serious brainfog. I bet there's just something I missed while reading. That seems to be my problem a lot of the time. If you have any ideas, thank you. Pickysaurus
If Vortex isn't already open in another process, then you have blocked it's access to the %appdata%\Vortex folder and associated files. Specifically the C:\Users\{USER}\AppData\Roaming\Vortex\state.v2 folder if I am remembering correctly. Make sure you have full ownership of these folders. Deuteragonist
Thank you so much for the details! I'm doing my best, but it still isn't working. As far as I know, I'm the owner of that folder. Maybe I'm still missing something. Can you see anything obvious?
Guest deleted34304850
something that may help you - if you're confident enough to edit the registry is this article which allows you to create a "take ownership" option when you right click a folder. if you're not that confident in using the registry, at the bottom of the article is a download to a couple of registry hacks which basically do what the article says for you. https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/add-take-ownership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/ you may want to take a read of it, and if you're curious, run it on a folder and see what it does for you. it may help with your issue - or may not - but i thought i'd share it regardless.
